🚨 UNUSUAL TICK ALERT: Gulf Coast Tick Found Locally! 🚨

We wanted to share an important update after a local pet owner recently removed a Gulf Coast tick (Amblyomma maculatum) from her dog.

While Blacklegged Ticks and American Dog Ticks are common in our area, Gulf Coast ticks are native to southern regions and rarely seen here.

The Great News:
Because this pup was up to date on her veterinary-prescribed tick prevention, the medication worked as intended—killing the tick immediately upon attachment!

Why Prevention Matters:

Expanding Ranges: Ticks are traveling farther north, bringing new species and new diseases into our community.

Effective Defense: Vet-approved preventives (chews or topicals) ensure that even if an unusual tick hitches a ride, your pet stays safe.

Has your pet had their tick prevention updated recently? Give our team a call or send us a message to keep your pets protected all season long! 🐶🐱

Is your pet starting to scratch? 🐶🐱

With the spring air in Amherstburg comes more than just flowers—it brings seasonal allergies!

One of the most important things we tell our clients is that timing is everything. Starting allergy medication at the very first sign of itching or redness is the best way to:
✅ Reduce Inflammation: Stop the itch before the skin gets angry.
✅ Prevent Infections: Avoiding "hot spots" means fewer secondary skin and ear infections.
✅ Increase Comfort: A comfortable pet is a happy pet!

Don't wait for your pet to be miserable or for an emergency to arise. If you’re noticing more licking, scratching, or rubbing, give us a call at 519-736-6472 to discuss a plan!

It’s Veterinary Receptionist Week! 📞✨

We are celebrating the superheroes who keep Fort Malden Animal Hospital running smoothly!

Between managing four phone lines, checking in patients, handling pharmacy requests, and—of course—showering every pup and kitty with treats, our reception team is the engine behind our clinic.

We appreciate your patience, your expertise, and the kindness you show our community every single day. We couldn't do it without you! 🏆🐾

Celebrating Chance & Feline Health! 🐾🏆

Feline February is all about "flipping the stats" and ensuring our cats get the veterinary care they deserve. We held a special draw for every cat who came in for an exam in February and March—and Chance is our big winner!

Chance’s family is walking away with a $100 account credit and an Apple HomePod mini.

Regular exams help us catch things like arthritis and early dental disease before they become emergencies. Way to go, Chance, for being a gold-standard patient!
