They're back! 👻

Our award-winning Ghosts of the Animal Kingdom display has returned to the Zoo for another season.

As you explore the Zoo, keep an eye out for the tombstones honouring recently extinct species and the stories behind them. But look a little closer and you'll also find something hopeful: trees growing from some of the tombstones, representing resurrected species that have made remarkable comebacks from the brink of extinction.

It's a reminder that while extinction is permanent, conservation action can make a difference!

Come explore the display and discover the stories behind the species on your next visit.

What your camera sees on a trip to the Zoo! 📸

Sometimes the best part of a visit is catching those little moments you weren’t expecting.

What’s your favourite photo in your camera roll after a visit?

Have you seen our foxes? 👀🦊

Holly and Mayhem can be pretty easy to miss during a visit, but if you take your time and keep an eye out, you might just spot them!

Red foxes are excellent hunters and have incredibly sensitive hearing that helps them detect small animals, even when they’re hidden beneath vegetation or snow. They’re also surprisingly adaptable and can be found in a wide range of habitats.

They may not always be front and center, but catching a glimpse of these two is always worth the wait! 👀

When someone tells you to stick your tongue out for a photo… 📸👅

A giraffe’s tongue can grow to around 45 - 50 cm long and is specially adapted for grabbing leaves from trees. It’s also prehensile, meaning they can use it to wrap around branches and pull leaves toward their mouths, making them pretty handy tools for reaching their favourite snacks!

That’s pretty impressive! 🦒

Red pandas may be small, but the challenges they face in the wild are anything but.

Native to the forests of the eastern Himalayas, red pandas are threatened by habitat loss and fragmentation, poaching, and human activity. Protecting red pandas also means protecting the forests and ecosystems they depend on.

That’s where the Red Panda Network comes in. Their conservation work focuses on protecting red pandas and their habitat by working alongside local communities in red panda range countries. Their approach brings together conservation, research, policy, education, and empowerment to help protect these unique animals and the forests they call home.

This weekend, we're proud to raise awareness and support the important work of the ! ❤️
