Let's settle this once and for all...

🐾 What is the WEIRDEST thing your pet has ever eaten?

As veterinary professionals, we've seen our fair share of unexpected snacks. From socks and toys to things that definitely weren't meant to be food, our patients keep us on our toes!

While some foreign object adventures end with nothing more than a good story, others can become serious medical emergencies requiring immediate veterinary care.

🚨 Signs of a possible foreign body obstruction can include:
• Vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy
• Abdominal discomfort
• Straining to p**p

Now it's your turn...

👇 Tell us the strangest thing your pet has ever eaten (and whether they got away with it or needed a trip to the vet!).

Bonus points if you share a photo of the guilty culprit in the comments! 📸🐶🐱

Let's see if anyone can surprise our team!

🐾 If our pets could talk, what would they want us to know?

The truth is, many health issues don't come with flashing warning signs. Dogs and cats are incredibly good at hiding pain, discomfort, and illness until it's progressed much further than we'd like.

That's why paying attention to the little things matters:
✔️ Changes in appetite
✔️ Different energy levels
✔️ Bad breath
✔️ Weight gain
✔️ Subtle behavior changes

You know your pet better than anyone. When something feels "off," trust that instinct.

❤️ Because they can't tell us when something hurts, they rely on us to notice.

👇 We'd love to hear from you:
What's one small change in your pet that turned out to be something important?

And if your furry family member is due for a wellness exam, give Heartland Veterinary Clinic a call today. Preventive care helps us catch problems early, before they become bigger concerns.

🔍 Dog sneezed twice?

Google: "Your pet has a rare condition seen only once every 300 years."

😳

Before you head down the internet rabbit hole, take a look at our quick guide to help you understand which symptoms should prompt a call to the vet and which ones may simply need a little monitoring.

While Dr. Google can be great for finding cute pet videos, it isn't always the best at determining whether your pet needs medical attention.

🐾 Remember: Every pet is different, and if you're ever unsure, we'd much rather answer your questions than have you worrying at home.

📞 When in doubt, give us a call. That's what we're here for!

Have you ever Googled a pet symptom and immediately regretted it? Tell us your funniest "Dr. Google" moment below! 👇😂

Your pet may not understand the appointment… but they understand kindness 🐾🤍

The gentle hands.
The calm voices.
The smiling faces.
The cookies waiting after the exam 🍪
The people who get down on their level.
The team paying attention to every little detail.

At Heartland Veterinary Clinic, we know veterinary care is about more than medicine. It’s about making pets feel safe, cared for, and loved every step of the way. 💙

Thank you for trusting us with your family.

Some urinary issues can look “minor” at first… but they may be signs of something more serious. 🩸🐾

Blood in the urine, frequent urination, or straining are symptoms that should never be ignored. While these signs can sometimes point to a UTI, they can also be linked to bladder cancer or other underlying conditions.

Early detection can make a huge difference. 💜

This Bladder Cancer Awareness Month, we’re encouraging pet parents to trust their instincts. If something feels off, it’s always worth getting checked.

Because when it comes to our pets, small signs matter. 🐶🐱

Sometimes the signs of vision loss in pets are easy to miss. 🐾👀

Maybe they hesitate on the stairs, bump into furniture, seem startled more easily, or suddenly can’t spot the toy right in front of them. These little changes can be your pet’s way of telling you something isn’t quite right.

Early detection can make a big difference when it comes to protecting your pet’s eye health and quality of life. 💙

If you’ve noticed subtle changes in your pet’s behaviour or vision, our team at Heartland Veterinary Clinic is here to help.

✨ Watch for the small signs.

Vet assistants are the calm in the chaos, the extra set of hands during appointments, the snack distributors, the patient snugglers, the clean-up crew, the comfort providers, and often the reason a tough day feels manageable. 🐾💙

At both Heartland Veterinary Clinic and NS Canine Recovery and Wellness Centre, we’re incredibly lucky to work alongside a team that gives so much of themselves to every patient and every family who walks through our doors.

This Veterinary Assistant Week, we just want to say thank you. For the care, the compassion, and all the behind-the-scenes moments that never go unnoticed.

Wildfire season in Alberta can change quickly… and emergencies rarely come with a warning. 🔥🐾

When preparing your family emergency kit, don’t forget the furry family members too.

A few things every pet parent should have ready:
🐶 Extra food & water
🐱 Medications
📋 Vaccination records
🦴 Comfort items
🐾 Leashes, harnesses, or carriers
📍 Updated ID tags & microchip information

Having a plan now can make a stressful situation a little less overwhelming later.

Take a few minutes today to think through:
➡️ Where would you go?
➡️ Who could help with your pets?
➡️ What would you need to grab quickly?

Your pets rely on you to keep them safe. 💛
