Nothing but good (and maybe some silly) vibes during Whiskey’s first ride under saddle 🙌🏻

This little man has struggled with his confidence so it was really exciting to have his first ride be this chill and positive! ♥️

It’s always helpful to have 2 humans when starting colts. It’s a great way to connect all of the groundwork to the riding.
greenslade_horsemanship did a fantastic job staying chill, clear, & confident for Whiskey. My role on the ground was just to help Whiskey understand what Trista was asking him.

Cool to see him go “oh yes I know this” many times throughout the session. It let us know that we did a good job preparing him for this experience and his riding career ahead of him.

Go Whiskey!

PSA : Get your kid on a horse 🙌🏻

Here’s a few reasons why horses are so good for kids (and adults too):

1 - They build confidence

Horses are large animals (900lbs +) that require calm & clear communication. When you start to realize how to effectively communicate with a horse you naturally develop confidence (and it tends to improve your communication skills with people too😉)

2 - They learn emotional regulation

Horses are prey animals & when they feel unsafe they’re pretty good at communicating it. Horses will quickly teach you that getting upset & loosing your cool does not get you very far.

3 - They learn TRUE responsibility

A horse needs a lot of care. Whether you’re sick, tired, unmotivated, burnt out, all of the things a horse still needs to be taken care of. Taking care of an animal that relies on you takes a lot of responsibility!

What life skills have horses taught you or your kids?! Let us know in the comments👇🏻

This past weekend I had the honour of being the clinician for the auditions ♥️

We spent Saturday working with a group of talented youth riders, helping them prepare for their riding auditions on Sunday. It’s always rewarding to spend time building confidence, refining skills, and watching riders step up when it counts. Every single rider did an incredible job this weekend.

A special shoutout to QE students Anna & Lauren who were among the auditioners. I’m so proud of you both for putting yourselves out there and going for it. It takes courage to ride under pressure and you both represented yourselves so well ♥️

Moments like this are one of the reasons I love coaching.

Come watch behind the scenes of a photoshoot with a horse!! 📸

I’ve had some neat opportunities recently with my horses and this is one of them that I’m excited to share with you 🙌🏻

reached out a few weeks ago needing a horse for a photoshoot for an upcoming project of hers. She sent me a mood board and I instantly knew the Andalusian mare Coco was 100% going to match the vibe Amery was looking for. Ethereal disco cowgirl 💃🏻🪩

Working with Amery and her photographer (Meghan) was so much fun! The vibes were so incredible… Although we froze our butts off lol

Side note - southern AB friends check out Meghan’s work 😍 this gal had like 6 cameras on the go- film, super 8, you name it.

Thank you ladies for being so great to work with and for loving the diva Coco Chanel as much as I do 🥹 I can’t wait to see the final results 🤪

Special shout out to wrangler for keeping all of the other horses out of the way 😂 and for linking us up 💕

Also big shout out to Coco 🤍. She’s a special mare that my mom and I started & trained. It’s cool to see your “babies” do grown up things and absolutely knock it out of the park. I’m really proud of her 😭♥️ she knows she’s awesome haha

A friend made an excellent post yesterday in our boarder group chat at . A lot of good nuggets I thought the horse world (especially the northern horse world) could use!

We are currently in an extreme deep freeze in our part of Alberta and especially after the fools spring we just had I felt this was important information to share.

Horses are tough, resilient creatures - I truly believe that! But I also believe that if we have a way to make their lives a little bit easier during extreme temperature changes that we should do all that we can to make their existence more comfortable.

A lot of these tips I had to learn the hard way- so I am sharing this in hopes that you whose reading don’t have to learn it the hard way too!

Feel free to share ♥️💪🏽

Stay warm friends!

Horse time = always my priority 🫣

If I haven’t gotten back to you I swear I will it’s just been busy round here 😂

Ok this is my hot take 🫣😂 I don’t like getting controversial but someone has to say it!!

The see-saw is different than a half-halt - it’s basically when a rider will pull on their reins back and forth pretty aggressively to get the head of the horse to tuck in and “collect”. And while yes - to the uneducated eye the horse has a pretty head frame - but a horse can tuck their chin in and be completely unbalanced through the remaining 85% of their body. So long term see-sawing your way to “collection” actually does you & your horse no favours…

The head position in TRUE collection is a byproduct of correct engagement from behind, a lifted core, and balanced shoulders - not something you can manufacture from the reins.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk ✌🏼😂
