Sept 18th evening update on Luke.
*These photos are from this morning before I brought him to the vet.
Last night Luke didn't do much at all. I gave him some water 3-4 times through the night/morning and he drank it willingly but slowly. He was drinking it so slow that by the time he was almost done drinking, he would lay down to finish and then basically rest in that place. (First photo/ his water bowl is close to his chin. 😞 )
I took him outside 2 times yesterday and this morning to p*e. Both times he did not p*e, he walked around for 2 minutes and then laid down on the grass and wouldn't get up. I carried him inside both times. (second photo)
As per the vets, I dropped him off there this morning and then I went back and checked on him around 1pm to see how he was doing. There were no improvements at that time and the vet wanted to continue the course we had discussed of fluids for a few days and recheck bloodwork etc... He said he hoped there would be some improvement when I pick him up at 7:30 tonight.
Another note, he is also on antibiotics because of infection. This boy is hanging by a thread here and it's absolutely heartbreaking. I can't wrap my head around this situation unfolding. He may also have diabetes. It's just one thing after another and we don't know what's going on or when this started or how we got here! It's a mess and we're trying to put the puzzle pieces together but we've only had him since last Saturday not even a full week and we've talked to the lady that owned him and she says he was totally fine when she had him. So we have nothing to give us an idea on why all his bloodwork is extremely off the charts.
Sorry getting off track here and I'm so sorry for the long update.
So I picked him up at 7:30 tonight, they said he hasn't p*ed for them all day either but his bladder was pretty much empty so all the fluids he's been given in the IV and the water he's had is basically going back into rehydrating him. So the improvement he had tonight was he gained back a little bit of hydration. It's a good thing but again he's hanging on by a thread, it's a miracle he's drinking water willingly in this condition I feel.
Right as I was going to leave with him, they we're getting him ready in the crate and he threw up, clear liquid. They gave him an injection for nausea again.
He didn't throw up at all when I had him last night.
We are home now, he hasn't come out of the crate yet.
He's pretty much sleeping a ton which I assume rest is good.
Tomorrow is going to be a big day. 😞 I drop him off at 9am tomorrow for more fluids. They will redo his bloodwork later in the afternoon and then basically if the levels haven't dropped or dropped enough for the vet, then it will be time to consider our options and what is best for the little guy.
We are hoping the Antibiotics and the IV fluids will lower his levels, we're praying hard there will be a difference in his bloodwork.
Again I'm so sorry for the novel but I didn't want to leave anything important out.
Massive thank you to everyone that has donated so far towards his care we are so appreciative and we will reach out to you all individually soon as we get a chance. This has been a stressful few days that were unexpected and we're just trying to keep him comfortable and cared for while he's quite sick.
So far since Luke first went in the other day up until currently, his vet bill is $1,358.57. We have raised $500 towards his vet bill so far, so thank you all, I did put it on his account tonight so we are currently left owing $858.57 for him.
I will post some photos tonight when he comes out of the crate. I will try to get him to go in the backyard for a little 2 minute walk/p*e.
If you read this far, thank you, thank you for keeping Luke in your thoughts and prayers like we are as well. Thank you for all the support and kind words. We are all rooting for Luke and hoping he pulls though.
