Happy (future) Foal Friday!!

We were thrilled to end the week with a positive 14-day pregnancy exam on a client mare bred to Nothing But Blu. Those black dots never get old and have us dreaming about foaling season 2027 🤩

Congratulations to London on his recent suture removal! London sustained a significant laceration to his face a few weeks ago while trailering. Luckily, Horizon Equine was there to help put the pieces back together and it has healed beautifully!

Did you know that lacerations are best repaired quickly while the wound is fresh? This allows us to assess, clean, and repair it for the best possible outcome.

Day 1 of competition at Southlands Riding Club’s first ever FEI event is complete! Southlands is hosting a CPEDI (International Para Equestrian) competition this weekend, with riders representing Canada 🇨🇦 and Argentina 🇦🇷. Horizon Equine is on site as the Permitting Treating Veterinarian for the competition.

Congratulations to the competitors on a great first day!

This past weekend, Paton & Martin Veterinary Services put out a call for a nurse mare when one of their patients tragically passed away two days after foaling. Horizon Equine and longtime client Nikki Schwalb answered the call for the foal in need. Nikki generously offered her experienced Westphalian broodmare, Divine, as a nurse mare for this adorable Thoroughbred filly. With a little medical help from Dr. Lauren Jeffery, Divine accepted the filly as her own and is now fully bonded with her. Just by chance, the paint swatches match too!

Veterinary medicine sure comes with highs and lows, and this case was no exception. Sometimes the most beautiful things come from the darkness.

It’s World Veterinary Day, and the World Veterinary Association Council has declared this year’s theme to be “Veterinarians: Guardians of Food and Health.”

While the public generally thinks of veterinarians as caring for animals, did you know that they actually look after YOU as well? Veterinary medicine is an integral part of food production and safety around the world, including right here in BC. While Horizon Equine is an exclusively equine practice, today we give a huge shout out to the unsung heroes of veterinary medicine - the food animal veterinarians who help deliver healthy and safe food to your family’s table.

Breeding season is in “foal” swing here at Horizon Equine! 2026 babies are hitting the ground and black dots are appearing on ultrasounds 🤩
