It's been a full year since Piper's left-hind suspensory injury with small cannon bone fracture and we're due for an update! Piper at the beginning of June, saw our Vet for her "biweekly" follow-up. We lovingly referred to these appointments as our "bi-weekly coffee dates with the Vet" as it often was in the morning and coffee was very much needed.
At her follow-up and after further examination we discovered Piper has adhesions along her cannon bone, which is preventing the last few inches of her suspensory ligament from healing and causing pain. Surgery unfortunately is not an option due to Piper's complex case- the potential for her suspensory to re-tear and the adhesions to come back, thus we started Piper on Previcox daily to cover any pain as well as as a precaution, we injected her left-hind stifle joint with cortisone steroid.
Piper today is lunging walk/trot sound for 20 minutes and increasing as we continue her rehab. Piper is cleared to start work back under-saddle however as we are 100% volunteer based, we do not have experienced volunteers who are able to ride her, thus we will be posting her for adoption as a mare who would do well in a therapeutic riding facility (she loves her humans!) or as a light-pleasure riding companion.
With all of this we are again asking for your help, as we have incurred over $11,000 in veterinary bills and are in need of raising $2800 by August 1st to clear Piper's 2025 veterinary bills.
Rehabilitation at Circle F is not "easy", we often take in the most complex cases. Some of you may remember Jango, came to us "supposedly" as a gelding, but instead had a crypt-orchid requiring laparoscopic surgery and is now living his best life in Squamish ❤
