’Do your research’ is great advice.
Until we use it as an excuse to wash our hands of what happens next.
Owners have responsibilities. Obviously.
But so do the people breeding the dogs. Selling them. Rehoming them. Training them. Treating them. And creating the systems they’re expected to navigate.
If making the ’right’ choice requires people to already know how to spot bad breeding, questionable credentials, outdated advice and health problems we’ve conveniently normalised…
maybe the problem isn’t just that people need to do more research.
Maybe we need to make the bad choices a little harder to make.
