Your vet has probably had a harder week than you think.

September is Su***de Prevention Awareness Month, and veterinarians are around four times more likely to die by su***de than the general population. It isn’t one bad day. It’s the long hours, the emotional weight, the compassion fatigue and the money conversations nobody enjoys, stacked on top of each other for years.

Here are four things that cost nothing and make the day easier, and none of them take more than a few seconds.

Your dog isn’t slow because it’s cold ☁️🍃

Cold weather doesn’t make joints stiff. It makes stiffness easier to spot, which is why so many owners first notice it in September.
The pattern to watch for: a pause before standing, short choppy steps for the first few metres, then it smooths out. Or the things they’ve stopped doing, the jump into the car, onto the sofa, standing at the bottom of the stairs.
Dogs don’t limp when it’s mild. They adjust. Shift their weight, shorten their stride, take the ramp instead of the steps. By the time it looks like pain, it’s been building a while.
