🐾 VAKANTIEPERIODES LOPEN SNEL VOL! 🐾

🔐 24/7 beveiliging

• Elke kamer én onze buitenruimtes beschikken over 24/7 beveiliging.

🛡️ Veilige, volledig afgesloten weides

🐶 Zindelijkheidstraining
🦷 Puppybijten & kauwgedrag
👋 Bezoek rustig leren begroeten
🐕 Socialisatie op een veilige en juiste manier
🧠 Omgaan met dagelijkse uitdagingen
🧬 Inzicht in rasgebonden eigenschappen & gedrag

⚠️ MAXIMAAL 4 DEELNEMERS PER GROEP

🐾 5 tips to prevent a dog fight 🐾

Most dog fights happen under very specific circumstances. Either when arousal levels are heightened or when a resource becomes sparse.

Knowing these things and being able to do predict them will significantly reduce the chance of a fight happening, especially with newer dogs where those boundaries and relationships have not been established.

🐾 Are you unintentionally making an unwanted behaviour problem worse? 🐾

We humans are often so focused on behaviour ’problems’ that we forget to consider the ‘why’?

Focusing on the problem only won’t change the what caused the behaviour to happen in the first place. That’s where we focus on our ABC’s…and not the fun children’s song.

A: Antecdent- the thing that happens before a behaviour

B: Bevaviour- what behaviour is being shown

C: Consequence- what is the consequence of that behaviour.

Only focusing on B will never change the driver of the behaviour. Focusing on A does. Focusing on A allows us to teach and alternative B which ideally still have the same impact as C. The dog still gets what they want in that moment, except by displaying an alternative preferred behaviour in its place.

It’s much simpler said than done for sure. But instead of just anticipating situations presenting themselves. Create them so you can work directly on that behaviour change from a point that works in your advantage.

🐾 Why life is harder for some border collies than others 🐾

Border collies have been bred for centuries to work alongside their farmer to collect sheep and herd them back home. These ‘gathering’ genetics are extremely powerful and can be seen expressed in a very young age.

It’s also these very same genetics that makes them very biddable but also struggle when things no longer make sense or are predictable. They thrive in patterns, routine and stability. They also require a place for these genetics to be expressed.

Should owners fail to understand how to fulfil those genetics appropriately, border collies will find other ways to meet those needs. Especially in chaotic environments where movement is everywhere, such as urban environments. This constant chaotic movement will activate those genetics.

So before getting frustrated at your border collie, ask yourself this. Are you giving appropriate outlets for those needs? How old is your dog? What type of environment do you live in? How to you mentally and physically stimulate your border collie?

🐾 What it means to think out of the box when training dogs🐾

When working in behaviour modification looking at behaviour alone head on won’t likely get you very far.

A dog trainer should be asking themselves why. Why is the dog performing this behaviour?

🩹🤕Medical reasons? In this example this dog had already been given the medical all clear so we stroked out the obvious issues such as hip dysplasia in this particular breed. Which issues around the car are often a common symptom.

😬Fear? Is he afraid of coming out of the car, or something else associated to coming out and being outside in a new environment.

📚Learned behaviour? Has something else been accidentally taught where the owner has inadvertently taught the dog to stay in the car.

Combination of things? Is there a negative association with the owner in this situation and this particular picture.

During this assessment I noticed how wary the dog was of his owner. The owner had then also expressed that there had previously been conflict between them historically when getting him out of the boot of the car which is when the dog escalated in behaviour.

The dog wanted to avoid this fight, this conflict which often occurs in this picture of events. It turned out getting out of the boot itself was the problem. Not necessarily getting out of the car. This was confirmed when we lowered the seats and asked the dog out via the side door which he has never done before and he jumped straight out without hesitation. Now we know where the issue lies we can create a training plan around the specific issue.

Had I not considered these points this could have lead us to creating more suspicion and tension around getting out of the boot of the car.

Would you have considered this last option?

🐾’It must be so noisy’ 🐾

One thing is very commonly get asked is ‘isn’t it super noisy when you have that many dogs staying’. The simple answer is no. If it’s constantly noisy then there is a reason for that.

Dogs that have been suffeciently exercised & had all of their needs met and above all feel safe do not bark continuously.

My setup up has been specifically designed to advocate for safety and rest rather than numbers. I chose to be small scale not because I had to, but because I prefer to see dogs happy.

If you have a facility or know of one that is constantly bouncing then I’d be looking more deeply into why that may be. Are the dogs getting out enough? Is the environment inherently stressful? Are dogs continuously facing or having to have constant contact with dogs or people through bars?

All of these things build an entire picture. All points need to exist to have this level of calmness.

🐾 How we help our guest dogs through a storm ⛈️

Many dogs are afraid of storms, rightly so they can be scary. Just as many people are scared of them. But there are things we can do to help it be less stressful:

• Create a consistent background noise
• Remove as much visual stimuli as possible such as closing curtains
• If you don’t have flickering lighting leave a brighter light on especially if the storm is expected to pass during the night.
• Remove anything nearby that could be affected by the wind creating a scary sudden noise.
