Rescuing stray cats from the streets of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina)

We are a group of friends and animal lovers who see the existing social problem of stray dogs and cats. Our capacities are very limited but we are highly committed to doing as much as we can. Due to a reduced number of dogs, stray cat population has increased and has thus become a new problem. We committed ourselves to the

alleviation of suffering of stray cats in Sarajevo (and other places in Bosnia and Herzegovina) by providing food, medical treatment, sterilization and finding homes. We have a few primary locations with cat colonies, but every street is our location as well. When we see a sick, abandoned and at-risk cat, we take action by moving the cat to a foster home, providing the cat with necessary veterinary treatment, and finding an appropriate forever home. We are truly grateful to anyone who can help with food, information, physical help or finances to make both cats and humans happy friends.

Here is the condition of her mouth so you can see for yourselves. It is beyond heartbreaking and absolutely devastating that such a tiny kitten has to go through this much pain and is slowly starving because she simply cannot eat. 🥹🥹

She spent one night at the veterinary clinic, and we also bought two cans of Recovery food and antibiotics. At the clinic, she was already given medication against calicivirus, which is supposed to remain active in her body for 30 days and help eliminate the virus.

She is such a tiny, innocent little soul, and seeing her suffer like this breaks our hearts. 💔🐾

From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank our dear Sandra Danne who donated €100 for our little girl. ❤️

With this donation, we will be able to cover her veterinary bills in the amount = 131.15 BAM, pay for her 1st month - foster care, and buy some much-needed wet food with the remaining money.

🐾🐾 2ND RESCUED KITTEN 🐾🐾

The day after we took the little boy (we think he’s a male) to the vet after he fell from a tree, fell badly, injured his little nose and was bleeding, we finally managed to catch his sister (we think she’s a female) too. We knew she was in pain, meowing all the time as if she was trying to tell us to help her 💔 and she couldn’t eat. 🥹

She really gave us a hard time because she’s such a scared little girl. She runs away, hisses and tries to defend herself, even though she’s still so tiny. We thought she might have a broken jaw or some other serious injury, which could explain why she wasn’t able to eat. 😔

We took her straight to the vet. She was treated for external parasites, and because she was so frightened and difficult to examine, she had to be sedated so the vet could properly check her.

Thankfully, there were no broken bones. ❤️ But we found out that she has calicivirus 🥹 and her mouth is in absolutely terrible condition. She is in a lot of pain, and that’s why she hasn’t been able to eat. 🥹

We are so incredibly relieved that we managed to catch her in time. If we hadn’t, her condition would have continued to get worse, and she most likely wouldn’t have survived. 🥹🥹

It breaks our hearts to think about how much pain this tiny little girl has been in...🥹

But now she’s safe. ❤️ And we’re going to do everything we can to help her get better. 🙏🏼🐾

First of all, a huge thank you to our dear Lin Da for helping little boy with his first expenses (posted here). It means so much to us! ❤️❤️🥰🐾

Yesterday, this sweet little boy was finally rescued and safely caught. Now, we are working to get him into foster care so he can stay safe, warm, and cared for, and able to continue with the treatment he needs. 🙏🐾❤️

But rescue doesn’t end with getting him off the streets. We urgently need a monthly sponsor to cover his foster care, so that he can remain safe and protected.

We never told you about a little family we’ve been caring for over the past few months, but that’s not the story of this post — we’ll tell you more about them another time.

One of the little girls is injured and has some kind of problem with her mouth. Today, we went there with the intention of catching her and getting her to a vet. She is incredibly frightened, so we knew catching her wouldn’t be easy... 😓

But sometimes things simply don’t go according to plan…

Instead of catching her, we ended up catching her brother...🥹

🥹 We think he’s a boy, although we didn’t even have a chance to check in all the chaos.

They have been hiding on a rooftop, climbing down a tree to reach the ground. When we arrived today and tried to catch his sister, he started climbing down the tree too, but he fell. 😓🥹🥹

He was badly shaken and injured himself in several places, and he also landed hard on his little face. There was blood coming from his nose, and in the middle of all the panic, we quickly put him into the carrier instead of his sister. We called a taxi and rushed him to the vet.

If only we had had two carriers with us… We would have tried to catch his sister at the same time, but unfortunately, we didn’t. 🥹

Thankfully, the vet examined him and found that nothing in his mouth was broken. He received fluids, pain medication and treatment for his injuries. Tonight, he is safely under the watchful care of a wonderful veterinarian who has taken him home with her.

We will need help with everything he needs - his treatment, recovery and foster care so we are hoping you will stand by him and help us save him. 🙏🍀🆘️

And tomorrow, we will try again to catch his sister. At this point, we are afraid she may actually be in worse condition than he is. 🥹🥹🥹

There were another four kittens around them, six in total. Sadly, one of the kittens has already disappeared. 🥹🥹

And honestly… how is a person supposed to stay sane through all of this? How are we supposed to live and breathe normally when every single day brings another injured, frightened animal who needs help?

We can’t. We simply can’t.

This is breaking us, little by little, every single day... 😓

Today, we went all the way from one side of the city to the other to look for a little kitten we were told about through our Inbox. We were informed that he was somewhere in the parking lot of a shopping center.

We searched the entire parking area, more than once. We literally looked under every single car, and there were so many of them. We even checked all the pipes and spaces underneath the ceiling, worried that this poor little one might have hidden himself there.

The parking lot is absolute chaos, the constant noise of cars coming and going is frightening, especially for such a tiny and vulnerable kitten. 😓🥹

Unfortunately, we couldn’t find him. 💔

We left food and fresh water for him, because there is absolutely no way for a little kitten to find food and water in a place like this on his own.😓

We are hoping with all our hearts that we will find him. 🙏🏻❤️😔🍀🐾🐾

Our sweet grandpa Whiskey has been at the veterinary clinic since Friday, after his bloodwork unfortunately worsened. 🥹❤️

The amazing team at Veterinarska stanica Urban pets doo Sarajevo is keeping a very close eye on our grandpa, making sure he gets all the treatment and care he needs — along with lots of cuddles and affection, of course. 🥰

They tell us he is an absolute sweetheart and a wonderful old gentleman who enjoys keeping them company. 🥰 Thankfully, he still has a good appetite, and he even likes to supervise and “help” the vets while they prepare his meals. 😅❤️
A very special, heartfelt thank you to veterinarian Nađa Salihović-Avdović, who came all the way across the city to pick up our grandpa and bring him safely to the Vet clinic. ❤️ It means more to us than we can say, especially since we don’t have a car...🥹

Now all we can do is hope and pray that our dear old boy will get stronger and feel better soon. 🍀🙏❤️

🌈 R.I.P. ROSIE, our little princess. 💔😭

This is Rosie, the little kitten we rescued last September. We lovingly called her our little princess, and she truly was. ❤️

Rosie had already survived so much in her short life. She survived panleukopenia, and after that, everything seemed to be going well. We thought the worst was finally behind us. But then, one day, Rosie stopped eating.🥹

We immediately took her to the vet - actually, she was seen by three different veterinarians, because we wanted more opinions and wanted to do everything we possibly could for her.

The results showed that Rosie had FIP and few other issues.💔

We immediately started everything that could possibly be done. We ordered FIP medication and fought for our little girl with everything we had. But hearing that diagnosis was devastating. 💔😭

It was an incredibly stressful and heartbreaking moment for our whole team. Just when we thought that Rosie had already been through the worst and that things were finally getting better, FIP came into our lives and brought us another terrible blow.

It took us quite some time to process everything, the sadness, the pain, and all the things that happened. But there is one thing we know for certain:

We did everything we could for Rosie. Everything that was possible.

And sometimes, no matter how hard we fight, we simply cannot escape fate. 💔

We want to remember our little princess as the brave little fighter she was. She may have been just a tiny little kitten, but she went through so much in her short life and we went through it all with her. 💔

Our dearest Rosie, we hope that wherever you are now, you are somewhere at most beautiful place, where there is no more illness, pain, fear, or suffering. We hope you are happy, running free and enjoying life with our beloved Plutko and all the other little paws who lost their battles in this world. 🌈🐾❤️

A part of Rosie's medical expenses is posted now, and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you dear Dorothy Hoppe (221,10BAM) and Madita Engström (172BAM) and Steffi (178,60BAM) who helped us cover her costs in the amount = 571,70BAM and supported us through this difficult time.
