Very exciting news. I was having zero fertility from Percy the past 7 months in with the older buff hens. They are between 2022 and 2024 hatch dates. So, Percy is out at the moment in a bachelor pen, and I subbed in Norbert.

Norbert is a shyer gentleman around people and gentle with his hens. A bit reserved in telling them about snacks etc. But he has obviously been wooing them, as I now have 12 eggs in the incubator that he is the father of.

I'm happy the hens are actually laying me any eggs this time of year, there are 4 girls in with him, and we are getting 1-2 eggs a day from the pen so it takes about 10 days for me to get enough eggs to pop in the incubator.

I am not completely happy with the fact Norbert has a mulberry comb, rather than dark, but it is a WIP.

I have a young son of Percy who is just about ready for his own flock, so I might rotate Norbert out in a few weeks back to bachelor pen, and put Peter in. I have some buff girls, sisters to Norbert, that are almost 12 months old, so Percy will get a chance with them to see if he has any fertility left in him after he has had a long celibate break.

Partridge are my favourite colour silkie, I love the variations in patterning and colour. These three (touch wood) will be the ones I show this year. First show, Northam Agricultural Society Inc Poultry Club Show on June 27th.

We have a show to go to in 3 weeks, so Evan has to get a head start trying to make his whites, actually white!

Tried to get some nice photos of this girl.
Failed lol.

She wouldn't stand still, wouldn't look the right way. Kept trying to walk off. Stretched out so she looked lean.

Bloody birds lol.

Evan has a small number of his pekins he is growing out. They are not mine, they are Evans. He owns both parent birds and showed both parent birds.
He chose who he wanted to keep.

He has three blue, one splash pullet and a splash cockeral.
