🌺🌻🌸Spring has sprung 🌸🌻🌺

The trees are blossoming, the flowers are blooming and our pets are spending more time in the outdoors in the sunshine. ☀️

Unfortunately that also means that allergies will be in full swing for our furry friends! 🪴

Signs of allergies ->
🌻 Itching or scratching
🌻 Licking their paws
🌻 Ear issues (redness, scratching, smelly)
🌻 Red skin
🌻 Hair loss

Allergies can be uncomfortable for your pet, and constant scratching or licking can lead to secondary skin infections 🙁

🌸 If you’ve noticed your pet has started to become particularly itchy already, book an appointment with our team! There are many different causes of itching, and we can help determine what may be causing your pet’s discomfort and recommend a treatment plan to help get them feeling comfortable again. 💙

We have some news! 🥳

We’re pleased to announce that Dr Jess Dalton and Dr Courtney Simkin are the new owners of Yoogali Veterinary Centre. 💙

Since 2014, Dr Kim Martel has been the heart of Yoogali Veterinary Centre, formerly Griffith Animal Hospital. Over the past 12 years, Kim and the team have dedicated themselves to caring for generations of pets and their families. We are incredibly grateful for everything Kim has done to establish, grow and shape the practice into what it is today. Don’t worry – you’ll still catch him in the clinic three days a week whistling behind the scenes, but he will be spending more time at home, in the garden, and with the grandkids.

While this is a change in ownership, Jess and Courtney are not new to Yoogali Veterinary Centre. Both are well loved members of the team and have established strong relationships with our clients and their pets. They are looking forward to continuing to work alongside the existing team and building on the work that has already been done.

As the next chapter begins, our goal is to build on the strong foundations Kim has established while continuing to uphold the high standards of veterinary care, compassion and service that our clients and patients have come to know and trust.

We are incredibly excited for what lies ahead and look forward to continuing to care for you and your pets for many years to come.

Hannah recently went across to CSU in Wagga Wagga to talk to the final year Veterinary students. These students are about to go on 12 months of clinical rotations - the final leg of a gruelling 6 year degree. 👩‍🎓

Hannah shared about her experience in rural practice as a Vet. She shared tips and tricks ranging from communication skills, through to making sure you pack the work car without forgetting anything important. 🚗

She also shared some of our interesting cases from the clinic here, showing how we work collaboratively as a team to get answers for our clients and patients. (Thankyou to those clients who consented to sharing their pet’s medical journeys). 🥰

She also shared the importance of balancing work with personal life and importance of the Vet’s role in rural communities.

We are happy to be part of a network, supporting our future generation of vets into practice ❤️

🐶 PARVOVIRUS 🦠

We have recently had a POSITIVE parvovirus case!

😷What is parvovirus?
Parvovirus is a highly contagious and potentially life-threatening disease that can affect dogs, particularly puppies and unvaccinated dogs.

🦠 How is it spread?
Parvovirus can be spread through infected faeces and contaminated environments, objects, shoes and even hands. The virus is extremely hardy and can survive in the environment for long periods.

🚨 Signs to look out for:
• Severe or persistent vomiting
• Diarrhoea, often bloody
• Loss of appetite
• Lethargy and weakness
• Dehydration
• Abdominal pain
• Rapid deterioration

💉 Vaccination is the best prevention!
Keep your dog’s vaccinations up to date (no matter the age). Puppies require a series of vaccinations because they are particularly vulnerable while their immune system is still developing.

⚠️ If your dog is showing signs of parvovirus, please contact us. Early treatment and supportive care can make a significant difference.

Do you remember Kita, who came to see us after needing a little helping hand delivering her final puppy? 🐶💙

Well, we were so excited to welcome her beautiful puppies back to the clinic last week for their first vaccinations, microchip and intestinal worming — all 8 of them! 🥰🐾

They’ve grown so much already, and it was wonderful to see them all happy, healthy and thriving! 💕

Willow had a pretty scary start to life. She had only been with her new family for 10 days when they noticed she had stopped eating, developed diarrhoea, become very thin and may have chewed and swallowed part of a rope toy. 😱

Knowing that something wasn’t quite right, her owners brought her straight in to see our team.

After a thorough examination, blood tests, X-rays and an ultrasound, we became concerned that Willow may have a foreign body causing a blockage in her intestines.

The decision was made to take Willow to surgery as soon as possible. 💙

During surgery, it was discovered that Willow had intussusception — a serious condition where one section of the intestine slides inside another, much like a telescope. This can cut off the blood supply to the intestine and can quickly become life-threatening.

Thankfully, Dr Jess was able to correct the problem, and Willow began her recovery with our team by her side. 🥰 She stayed with us for a little while after surgery before finally being able to head home to her family once her drain was removed.

And yesterday, we got the BEST update! 🥹💙
Willow came back to visit us for her check-up and vaccinations — and she’s now a happy, healthy 6.5 month old puppy! 🐶🎉
