The last time we put up this post was nearly 2yrs ago. It's one of our most popular posts and THE most asked question. So due to the increase in Cattery families & Facebook followers we thought we'd put it up again for those who may not know what we do in a regular week.
So here goes! This is what our every day life involves 🙃 AND we're lucky enough to actually love it! This is a LONG post but well worth the read if you haven't already!
** Note: 90% of it happens outside opening hours so you will never see it **
𝐃𝐀𝐈𝐋𝐘 (𝟕 𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬/𝐰𝐤 - 𝐲𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬 & 𝐏𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐲𝐬!)
* The Big Morning Clean which involves: clean up of hairballs/vomits/water/toilet accidents, wiping/disinfecting floor of every unit, complete litter changes (on average 30 x trays a day). All finished by 7.45am.
* AM & PM feeding, water refreshed/replaced (more food & water through day for those who need it).
* Daily invoices.
* Opening Hours which involves: check-in & check-outs (incl. talking to our cat owners), answer phones, show people through who come to look at our Cattery.
* On average: 4 x loads of washing, 15 x phone calls, and answering 35ish email bookings a day. Sometimes many more!
* Medications and special requirements.
* Updates, including photos, sent to owners of current guests (on rotational basis).
* Constant monitoring of cats across the whole day (observing, listening, noting any important details on every cat staying with us).
* Constant poo scooping💩 and litter/vomit clean-ups to keep smells non-existent from 8am to 6pm.
* Brushing, playing, snuggling & sometimes just sitting, with every cat who wants our time (which is most) 😻
* Clean & mop main floors (cattery hall, office, laundry & human loo).
* The dishes!
* Booking confirmations sent out.
***** 𝗬𝗲𝘀, 𝘄𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗻 𝗗𝗔𝗜𝗟𝗬 𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗸𝘀 *****
* Check bank for deposits/payments & email those who have paid to let know.
* The Book! On average 2-3hrs is spent on “the book” a day - putting bookings in/making adjustments to peoples dates, the rare cancellations, and doing everything we can to find available space ! (Sonia calls it “giving the book a joosh”).
* Ongoing monitoring of weather & adjusting heaters/air cons/fans/outdoor blinds/windows to keep the Cat House cosy for our guests.
* Half an hour recap at the end of each night, often done over a drink, to handover any info to eachother so we are both on the same page about everything & everyone 🍻🥂🤷♀️
𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 (𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐞):
* Disinfect, clean & scrub litter trays.
* The Turnover Clean - when one furry guest leaves, their Suite fills the very next day. And this happens all year round. So each Suite is emptied, cleaned from top to bottom, setup with all new bedding/toys/litter trays/food&water bowls & a name tag.
* Order/buy supplies (including cat food, litter, bedding, laundry/cleaning/office products, etc).
* Keep website up to date, especially our “Availability” page, which needs almost daily changes.
* Conversations with vets as needed (mostly for our own knowledge).
* Aside from invoices, all other tasks to do with accounting including keeping up with purchases&receipts/eftpos receipts/direct deposits/quarterly BAS etc.
* Cleaning of cat carriers after accidents have occurred on the way to us.
* Deposit details sent out to all in the next month.
* Booking forms for newbies (or “oldies” who need to update details) entered into our system.
* Take and collect, photos/videos of our furry guests for updates, our records, facebook etc.
* Clean outdoor deck areas.
* Facebook posts.
* Sort out food for donations & drop off.
Phew! Somewhere in amongst all of the above we stop and smell the roses 🌹 and spend time with our own crazy fur kids 🤪 This is why we get ever so slightly offended if people presume we only work the hours we are open for 🤷♂️ Most nights we are still doing “work stuff” at 10pm. But hey, we love what we do! 🥰 and remember, it's only the two of us 💕
