🦷✨ Pippa and Toby visited us yesterday for their dental procedures, and just look at that smile! ✨🦷

After their treatments, these two best friends enjoyed some well-earned rest together, all snuggled up in recovery. 💕🐾

In the cooler months of winter you may have some unwanted house guests. While one may want to get rid of rats & mice with the use of rat poison, it is extremely hazardous to pets.

Ingestion of rat bait (rodenticide) is common in dogs less so in cats. Ingestion can lead to spontaneous bleeding 4 days to 2 weeks after ingestion. Owners are often aware that they have eaten rat bait. Dogs can be made to vomit within an hour or two of ingestion. If more than 4 hours after ingestion the recommendation is to do a PT time (blood test) 48h after ingestion.

If you see your dog eat rat bait immediate veterinary treatment is essential. Whilst the poison is still in the stomach we are able to make the dog vomit to get the poison out. We have between ½ to 2 hours before the poison passes into the intestine & cannot be vomited up.

Clinical signs of rodenticide poisoning include bleeding from any site (more commonly from the mouth or lungs). Blood will be seen in water bowls, around the gums or the dog will develop a soft cough & possibly a bloody nasal discharge. Other signs include anemia (pale gums), weakness, dullness, lethargy, reduced appetite, collapse and superficial skin bruising. These signs are usually seen at least 7 days after ingestion.

Call us immediately on 6226 4444 if you see your pet playing baits or suspect ingestion.

Winter can be tough on our senior pets, but a few simple changes can make a big difference in keeping them comfortable and happy. 🐾

❄️ Keep them warm and comfortable with soft bedding and cosy spots away from drafts.

❄️ Gentle daily movement helps maintain mobility — think short walks or light play suited to their pace.

❄️ Support stiff joints with easy home access (like non-slip flooring), and keep an eye on their weight, as extra kilos can add strain.

❄️ Make sure they’re drinking enough water, even in cooler weather.

❄️ Don’t skip regular health checks — early detection is key to keeping them feeling their best. 💛

We had the cutest little visitor in clinic this week 🐾💙

Louie the Jack Russell puppy made himself very at home, keeping the team entertained with zoomies, toys, and plenty of puppy cuddles while visiting the clinic!

Safe to say he stole a few hearts 🥹✨
