Two hives, one swarm, and a top bar that’s seen better days.
Spring’s well and truly kicked off here on the Southern Tablelands, and the bees know it.
Our top bar hive is a bit worse for wear. Honestly, it’s held together with good intentions and a few bricks. The plan is to move that colony into the Langstroth sitting underneath it very shortly. Down the track we’ll build a new top bar properly, once we’ve got the timber.

Then there’s the bonus hive. The top bar colony split, and the swarm went straight into a Langstroth we had set up in a different spot. It’s going great. Lots and lots of bees.

This week Home Paddock and Top Paddock members get a special beekeeping section. It covers what’s happening in our hives and what you need to be thinking about for spring in yours.

👉 At some point on your homesteading journey you will bake a loaf of bread that you could literally build a house with, 'cause it's as hard as a rock. More importantly it will get better!
