Meet Banoffi 👋
Banoffi is a 5 month old Lagotto Romagnolo puppy and, as you can probably tell, a very clever little girl!
Like many puppies, there were a few parts of grooming she was a little unsure about, so we asked her parents to bring along some of her favourite treats. This meant we could help her build positive associations with some of the things she found a bit scary.
Like many little Lagottos, the dryer was definitely high on her list! Rather than forcing her through it, we worked on letting Banoffi choose to put her face into the wind herself, treats only offered where the airflow was. With a little time, she became desensitised and comfortable enough that we managed to dry her whole face!
We also practised “chin holds”, which are a fantastic skill for puppy parents to work on at home. Teaching your puppy to gently hold the chin fur helps prepare them for being safely handled and positioned on the grooming table.
Banoffi still has a few things we’ll continue working on, but that’s exactly what puppy grooming is about. Although judging by the end of her appointment, Banoffi was feeling very confident… apparently she’s ready to take over the front desk now 😂
