🤍This beautiful little echidna was recently brought into our clinic after being found with ticks and appearing unwell.
Like possums, echidnas can tolerate a certain number of paralysis ticks without becoming seriously affected. However, when tick numbers become high, they can develop problems such as skin irritation, dermatitis and anaemia.
If you come across an echidna with ticks, please call your local wildlife rescue organisation, zoo or vet for advice before removing it from its habitat. If the echidna is visibly very unwell, injured or in immediate danger, seek veterinary or wildlife assistance straight away.
Sometimes the best thing we can do for our wildlife is simply to get the right advice before stepping in. 🥰🌿
