🌟 Hypertension in Senior Cats 🌟

Did you know that high blood pressure (hypertension) is a silent stalker in our senior cats? Many cats show no signs at all, and sudden blindness is often the first sign that caregivers notice. 😺

🔴 Look out for these subtle signs in your cat and speak to our vet team about any concerns:
🔹Sleeping more
🔹Acting withdrawn
🔹Bumping into things
🔹Changes in the eyes, such as bleeding
🔹Signs from other diseases, such as weight loss and hyperactivity in cats with hyperthyroidism

Regular veterinary visits, including blood pressure checks, are especially important for senior cats, to catch signs of hypertension early. 💞

🌟 Is Your Dog Coughing? Here’s When to See a Vet 🌟

A cough here and there might not be a big deal, but persistent or unusual coughing in dogs can signal an underlying issue. Some possible causes include:

🔹 Canine (Kennel) Cough – A harsh, honking cough, often from exposure to other dogs.
🔹 Heart Disease – A soft, persistent cough, especially at night or after exercise.
🔹 Collapsed Trachea – A goose-honk sound, common in small breeds.
🔹 Lung Disease or Infections – Wet, phlegmy or wheezy coughs.
🔹 Something Stuck! – A sudden, gagging cough after chewing on a toy or stick.

🚨 See a vet if your dog’s cough is:
✅ Frequent or worsening
✅ Paired with difficulty breathing or fatigue
✅ Lasting more than a few days
✅ Producing phlegm, blood or a honking sound

Early diagnosis can help keep your pup healthy! If in doubt, please contact us and book a check-up, or visit your nearest emergency vet. 🩺🐾

🌟 Hug Your Cat Day 🌟

June 4th is the purr-fect opportunity for some snuggle time with your kitty cat. 🐈
Not all cats enjoy hugs, so you may have to settle for a nose boop or a back arch. However your cat shows affection, one thing is certain - touch is a vital form of communication. 💖

🌟 Winter Pet Safety: Essential Oils 🌟

With winter upon us, our pets are spending more time indoors and we are closing our windows and doors to retain heat.
As a result, our pets are being exposed to higher concentrations of essential oil particles in the air.
Essential oils can be particularly toxic to cats, as they lack the essential enzymes in their liver to metabolise and eliminate the chemical compounds.

If pet parents wish to burn or vaporise essential oils in their homes, it is always best to use dilute solutions in well-ventilated spaces. 🕯

🌟 Does Your Dog Have Arthritis❓ 🌟

Have you noticed that your pooch is a bit stiff in the mornings or a bit sore after a big walk? 🐕
It could be arthritis…🤔 In fact 1 in 5 dogs has arthritis. It is an incurable, debilitating disease of the joints that is often worse in winter.

Osteoarthritis is often noticeable later in its development because the initial changes within the joint are not visible. As dogs have 4 legs, they can shift weight and change their posture to cope with pain.
Often we hear pet parents say “he’s just slowing down..” or “he’s just a bit stiff”. It’s common for them to not notice changes in their dog's willingness to exercise and play as these changes occur over time and when they do finally show symptoms, the disease is already quite advanced and the dog is often in considerable pain.

Even younger dogs can suffer the effects of Osteoarthritis. If you’ve noticed your dog display any of the following signs, please book in for a quick check up. The pain of arthritis can be treated!

🔹Stiffness when getting out of bed in the morning
🔹Limping or stiffness after a walk or exercise
🔹Licking or gnawing at joints or paws
🔹Puffy joints
🔹Abnormal gait
🔹Reluctance to walk upstairs or jump
🔹Reluctance to play and run
🔹Changes in behaviour/aggression
🔹Postural change or muscle wastage

If you think your pet is showing any of the above signs, please contact us to book a consultation. 📞
Our vets will assess your pet, discuss the options with you, and recommend an appropriate course of treatment to help your pet feel more comfortable. ❤️
