Today I wanted to share a little win for beautiful Ruffles 🐩🌿
Ruffles has been enjoying my two-hour outing package, which is a service I offer for dogs who benefit from a longer adventure, gentle guidance, enrichment, and time out in the world at their own pace.
Our walks together are never rushed. We usually head somewhere peaceful with beautiful forest scenery, where we can take things nice and slow.
We stop often for sniffs, little breaks, and to check in with our surroundings. This gives Ruffles time to settle, breathe, and feel more aware of what’s happening around him. It also means if another dog or person walks past us, it isn’t such a big surprise, he’s already had time to look around, rest, and regulate.
At the end of our walk, we sit down together for 20–30 minutes and practice calm check-ins. When Ruffles looks back at me or chooses to connect, I gently reward him by dropping a treat on the ground. It’s such a simple little exercise, but it’s amazing for encouraging calm behaviour, confidence, and focus.
Ruffles can be quite an anxious boy, so watching him settle into our outings, take in the world at his own pace, and do so well makes me so proud of him.
These are the little moments I love most, seeing a dog feel safe, supported, and understood while we’re out together 🤎🐾
