🐾 **Territory Day is almost here – Help Keep Your Pets Safe** 🎆
For many pets, fireworks are more frightening than festive. If your dog or cat becomes anxious during loud noises, now is the best time to prepare before Territory Day arrives.
If you think your pet may benefit from calming medication or prescription sedatives, please contact **Darwin My Vet Service** as soon as possible. These medications require a veterinary consultation and prescription, and appointment availability becomes limited as Territory Day approaches.
Here are some simple ways you can help your pet feel more secure:
🏠 **Create a safe haven**
Set up a quiet, comfortable room inside your home where your pet feels safe. Close curtains, windows, and doors to help reduce noise and flashing lights.
🎵 **Reduce outside noise**
Play calming music, the television, or white noise to help mask the sounds of fireworks.
🦴 **Keep them occupied**
Offer enrichment toys, puzzle feeders, long-lasting treats, or a favourite chew to help distract them.
🚶 **Exercise early**
Walk your dog well before the fireworks begin, then keep all pets safely indoors for the evening.
🔒 **Check their identification**
Ensure your pet's microchip details are up to date and that they're wearing a collar with current ID tags, just in case they become frightened and escape.
❤️ **Stay calm and reassuring**
Your pet will often look to you for reassurance. Stay relaxed, avoid punishment if they're fearful, and let them settle where they feel safest.
📅 **Plan ahead**
Please don't wait until the last minute. Veterinary appointments and calming medications become increasingly limited in the days leading up to Territory Day.
If you're unsure how best to prepare your pet, our friendly team is here to help.
