Time is a super precious commodity & there’s more than enough demands on it these days.

We’re also told how eating well is a really valuable aspect to our overall health.

But how do you find a way to make time to eat well & look after those you care about ? Short answer - don’t know. But if you do carve out 1.5 hours on a Friday morning, I’m running a series of 7 hands on workshops at Popes Produce home ground covering all the basics with bed space to experiment starting

THIS FRIDAY 9-10.30am. All the details are via the link, or send me a message with all your questions.

Sending big squeezes to everyone squeezing the most out of everyday!

Imagine looking out your window in the morning and watching food grow.

What a trip!

Generous quantities of space are not always readily available & let’s be honest, not everyone does want it as it’s yet something else to be managed.

BUT if you do have even just a little, play with it, let the space earn its keep & offer rewards for your time and energy.

Backyards are waaaay more than just another room to furnish. They can become extensions of the life you love. And tasty ones at that.

🌱Summer garden classes here at Popes Produce home ground are kicking off next Friday more info in bio.

Reminded by a buddy the other day about this beauty & how it’s such a giver.

Her daughter looked so happy to be harvesting the stalks (leaves are inedible) to be cooked into something fab, I think with her grandma.

Rhubarb is a trip. Shareable by crown division, takes a little while to get growing, but then you’ve got it for the long haul.

Back to grandmas. The one pictured above came from my kids primary school (they’ve both now well finished highschool). Planted by a dad in the school garden from a division of his grandmas rhubarb which was 36 years old then.
Being new to this plant, I took some home to see what would happen. Bloody delicious stewed with a little orange just & cinnamon is my conclusion. Time rolls on, I’ve divided it again & again, shared at several crop swaps, grown on again & shared with friends.

So that friends daughter is now part of the (at least 50 year) history of the school rhubarb.

Imagine being that connected with more of our food.

Want to grow food that’s worth protecting?

Build some skills, understanding & curiosity to grow some food in the backyard. (Yours or a neighbours).

I’ve put together a whole heap of resources where we cover the foundations of soil, seed cycles, composting, what else lives in the garden and a few more. 1.5 hours a week for 7 weeks.
Think of it as a new exercise routine ;)

All the learning is happening here at Popes Produce home ground with access to grow in the garden during the course.

For the keen beans, send me a message - we start the adventure end of October.

Mmmmmmmm

Not a product you can buy off the shelf. It takes a set of skills and curiosity to make a place hum. And time. And patience.

With all that’s doing out in the wide blue yonder & lifecycles cycling through lives… just thought I ‘d bring you all a little grounding.

With seeds come hope. There’s something about watching (& where possible, participating) in growing a little good. You don’t need huge spaces (think wicking containers from reclaimed vessels). Plants will always give more than pavers (go dive into W I L D C I T Y S T U D I O to see what permaculture in a city can look like).

Happy spaces make for happy people (even if the selfies only capture part of the joy).

And when you slow down long enough, you can experience new growth where you thought you wouldn’t see it & luminosity through the most humble moments.
Sending hugs

‘Eating is our most direct & intimate connection we have to nature’ (apologies - unknown to me author)

The connection is real around here. Chickens also value a diverse diet & find protein sources unappealing to us.
Oft hidden fungal networks digest carbon sources breaking down this ‘waste stream but one we consider highly valuable as the end of its journey is happy soil.
Grubs - part of the life cycle too, could end up being a cicada - who knows?
More decomposers and a valuable soil building workforce enhancing life in edible gardens everywhere.

We need smaller more wholistic systems. Ones where knowledge is shared generously & there’s a little less reliance on complex designs with commodity movement as their focus.

Start a worm farm, some seeds on the bench. Go for a walk in the neighborhood & look for pollinators in action.

Now remember that comment about intimate connection to nature? How about making a little time for it?
