Our hospital is currently experiencing a blackout/power outage which means that we are unexpectedly CLOSED for the evening.

As this power outage affects our phones, any calls will be diverted through to our Homebush hospital who can assist you with details of the next closest hospital to take your pet to, if they require care.

We have been told that the power is anticipated to be restored by 2.30am but this is only an estimate.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and we will try to update you when we have more information available to us.

๐Ÿฑ๐Ÿ’™ Free Cat Desexing Program ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฑ

Wollongong City Council is proud to partner with Animal Welfare League NSW and the Illawarra Local Aboriginal Land Council to offer free cat desexing for eligible residents from 17โ€“20 August 2026.

Desexing helps improve the health and wellbeing of cats, reduces unwanted litters, and supports responsible pet ownership throughout our community. ๐Ÿก๐Ÿพ

To be eligible, you must:
โœ… Live within the Wollongong Local Government Area
โœ… Hold a valid Pensioner Concession Card or Centrelink Customer Reference Number (CRN)

We particularly encourage Aboriginal community members who meet the eligibility criteria to apply.

Places are limited and applications are essential.

Many pet owners believe that ticks are only out in the warmer (spring/summer) months but Ollie is proof that even though the weather is cooler, ticks are out and about all year round.

Darling Ollie came into our hospital on Friday evening as he was wobbly on his legs, he was coughing and he hadn't eaten for 24hrs. Ollie's mum told us that she had also removed 2 ticks from Ollie that morning.

As Ollie was displaying typical symptoms of tick paralysis, he was admitted into hospital for a full 'tick clip' and tick anti-serum to fight the toxins in his bodies.

Little Ollie has gone home to recover further with a not-so-flattering hair cut but we had to be sure that there were no more ticks hiding under his long coat.

It is important to remember to treat your pets all year for all parasites including ticks, fleas, intestinal worms and heartworm as these deadly pests are always out in the environment.

We hope that Ollie grows his beautiful coat back soon ๐Ÿค
