🐾 ANIMAL JUSTICE PARTY

This weekend, Gypsea Tails stepped into a slightly different space .. volunteering with the Animal Justice Party for the Secret Harbour by-election.

Were the numbers what we hoped for? No.

& ya, that part is bloody sad.

Because in 2026, it still blows my mind that protecting animals, their welfare, their lives & their right to be treated with compassion is something we even have to fight for.

It shouldn’t be a fu***ng question.

Animals matter.

But change doesn’t only happen in election results.

It happens in conversations.

It happens through education.

It happens when we teach our kids differently.

When we challenge outdated thinking.

When we stop accepting “that’s just how it is”.

When ordinary humans decide to give a s**t & then actually do something about it.

& this weekend reminded me just how many incredible humans are already doing exactly that.

Meeting Neil, Amanda, Bec, Tash, Emma, Caroline, Nathan, Jim, Mikala & so many other beautiful humans throughout the day, even briefly has genuinely lit another fire inside me.

Different backgrounds. Different stories. Different reasons for being there.

But one enormous thing in common:

A belief that animals deserve better from humans.

& THAT is the space I want Gypsea Tails to keep stepping further into.

Not just caring for Dogs.

But advocating. Educating. Starting uncomfortable conversations. Helping humans understand animals better. Pushing for prevention instead of waiting until things go wrong.

Being part of the change I keep asking to see.

Because governments matter.
Policies matter.
Votes matter.

But change also starts much closer to home.

It starts with us.

So join the conversation.
Ask questions.
Learn.
Educate your kids.
Support rescue.
Understand the animals sharing our communities.
Speak up when something isn’t right.

To every single person I met, spoke to, laughed with or stood alongside this weekend — thank you.

Thank you for giving your time.
Thank you for caring.
Thank you for showing up for animals.

The numbers might not have been what we wanted.

But the fire is very much alive.

🐾 Happy International Dog Day

(Just me, my voice, a bunch of Dogs & nature)

Today is for the Dogs.

The crazy ones.
The nervous ones.
The old souls.
The puppies finding their feet.
The rescues learning that the world can be safe.
The misunderstood ones.
& the absolute lunatics who make us laugh every single day.

Dogs give us so much while asking for remarkably little in return.

& I think we owe them more than simply loving them.

We owe them understanding.

To learn their language.
To listen when they communicate.
To give them time in nature.
To advocate for them when they’re struggling.
To stop labelling behaviour & start asking why?

Because every Dog is an individual with their own nervous system, experiences, personality & story.

At Gypsea Tails, that’s what we celebrate every day.

Not perfect Dogs.

Dogs being Dogs.

Running. Sniffing. Exploring. Playing. Resting. Learning. Healing. Belonging.

& if there’s one thing I hope we can keep changing, it’s the way humans see them.

Less judgement.
More curiosity.
Less control.
More connection.
Less “What’s wrong with this Dog?”
More “What is this Dog trying to tell me?”

Because when we know better, we can do better.

For our Dogs.
For rescue Dogs.
For the misunderstood Dogs.
For all Dogs.

Happy International Dog Day from our beautifully muddy, hairy, slightly chaotic Gypsea Tails family.

🐾 The Truth Is…

The truth is, you become pretty unstoppable when you stop allowing other people to decide who you are.

🐾 You grow.
🐾 You learn.
🐾 You keep showing up.

& eventually, you realise that no one can take away your heart, your personality, your passion or the way you choose to move through this world.

For me, that means using my voice for animals.

Not just Dogs. All animals.

Because change doesn’t happen by waiting for someone else to do something.

It starts with us.

Be kind.
Be brave.
Be YOU.
And if something matters to you … stand up for it.

Be the change. For ALL animals.

That’s what Gypsea Tails will always stand for.

Calling this a “substantial Dog welfare overhaul” while allowing a female Dog to be bred for up to FIVE litters is incredibly difficult to celebrate.

Five litters.

Potentially dozens of puppies from the same female before we finally decide she has given enough of her body.

Yes, stronger welfare protections, veterinary oversight, hereditary disease provisions & greater accountability are steps forward.

But we seriously need to stop applauding legislation simply because it is better than what existed before.

Better does not automatically mean good enough.

If animal welfare is genuinely the priority, legislation should be built around prevention, health and quality of life , not around establishing how many times we can legally breed an animal before we’ve crossed the line.

& without robust breeder registration, traceability & enforcement, I have another question:

🐾 Who is actually keeping track of whether a female Dog is having her second litter or her sixth?

We need to stop setting animal welfare standards at the lowest level society is prepared to tolerate.

Set them at the level the animal actually deserves.

Five litters is not the progressive welfare reform I would be celebrating.

We can & absolutely should do better for Dogs.

🐾 Whoever said money can’t buy happiness… clearly wasn’t spending it on Dogs.
🐾

Because THIS?

This is happiness to us.

🐾 Dogs running wild.
🐾 Dogs making friends.
🐾 Dogs gaining confidence.
🐾 Dogs getting muddy, sandy, wet & wonderfully tired.
🐾 Dogs getting to just… be Dogs.

& if money is being spent creating more of this — safe spaces, adventures, enrichment, care, rescue, rehabilitation & giving Dogs bloody good lives…

Then we reckon money is doing a pretty good thing.

We may never be rich in the traditional sense…

But rich in Dogs?

Absolutely loaded.

This is our kind of wealth.
