When we started The Paws Room, it was because we wanted dogs to have a safe, comfortable den-like space at home, without us having to compromise on how our homes feel.

Teddy was our answer to that. These days there are many crate options available. Wire crates, furniture crates, playpens, timber crates, Kmart crates. And honestly, I think that’s a good thing.

Because the more dogs that have a space of their own to rest, retreat and feel at home, the better.

So we started thinking beyond the crate itself.

What if you already have a crate you’re perfectly happy with?

Could we make it comfier?
Could we get the bowl off the bedding?
Could we make it easier to move?
Could we make a wire crate feel more at home in your room?

Making any crate better is a direction I’m really excited we’re taking!

Lately I’ve been looking at our Teddy crate and thinking… what could make Paolo’s space even better?

Not another crate. Not a redesign.

Just thoughtful little things that solve some of the everyday annoyances of living with a crate and make the space inside it more comfortable, practical and considered for them.

A better place to rest their head.
A smarter way to have water nearby.
Little things that make a crate feel more considered.

We’ve been working on a few ideas and the more we work on them, the more I’m realising they shouldn’t just be for Teddy.

We’ve been working away behind the scenes to create a little welcoming space in our Brisbane warehouse where dogs and their people can come and try Teddy on for size 🐾

We know crate furniture is an investment, and while we do our best to show every detail online, we also appreciate what a difference it can make to see it in person before you make that decision.

So, by appointment, you can bring your dog along, see the different sizes, let them climb in and get a feel for which Teddy is right for them and your home. You can ask us all the questions too.

Kinda chic to realise the best idea might have been hiding inside the crate all along.

For years, we’ve been a little obsessed with creating a better dog crate.

We designed Teddy because we wanted dogs to have a space of their own that felt calm, comfortable and safe, while still looking beautiful in the home.

And then we spent years perfecting everything that went inside it too.

The mat.
The sheepskin.
The little details that make a crate feel less like somewhere you put your dog, and more like somewhere they genuinely want to be.

But somewhere along the way, we realised something.

Not every dog needs a new crate.

There are thousands of perfectly good wire crates, furniture crates and playpens already sitting in Australian homes.

So why should you need to replace the whole thing to make your dog’s space better?

Maybe we could take everything we’ve learnt creating Teddy and use it to help dog parents make any crate better.

And that starts with the thing every dog actually lies on.

An elegant, supportive and seriously practical mat, designed to turn the crate you already have into a much nicer place to be.

Our Peppa Mat was originally designed to fit Teddy perfectly. But it turns out it fits beautifully in some of Australia’s most popular crates too.

And honestly, that realisation has changed the way we’ve been thinking about what comes next.

Because quietly, behind the scenes, we’ve been working on a few new ideas that take this thinking even further.

Things designed not just for our crate, but for your crate.

Whatever that happens to be.

We still love Teddy. We still believe there’s something pretty special about creating the whole space from the ground up.

But we also love the idea that you shouldn’t need to buy a whole new crate to give your dog a more comfortable, considered and beautiful space of their own.

So this feels like the beginning of something new for The Paws Room.

Any crate. Better. 🤍
