Meet Frankie! 🐾

This tiny little Italian Greyhound came in for his vaccination and was quite possibly the cutest little patient we’ve had in our hands! 🥹

Frankie was so teeny, he practically fit in the palm of our hands. 🥰

Safe to say, we were all a little bit obsessed! 💚

Bird flu is making headlines, so Better Homes & Gardens asked Greencross Vets what it means for our pets.

Greencross Vets veterinarian Dr Nina shares practical advice to help pet parents understand the risks and take simple precautions.

“Bird flu can infect all mammals, so dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets can all be infected.”

From avoiding contact with sick or dead wildlife to keeping cats indoors and dogs on a leash around wildlife, a few simple steps can help reduce exposure.

Read Dr Nina’s advice and the full Better Homes & Gardens article at:

🖤 A majestic visitor who never should have needed a trip to the vet.

This beautiful black swan was found with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth - a painful and completely preventable injury caused by discarded fishing gear.

Removing the hook required a general anaesthetic, along with pain relief to keep this feathered patient comfortable while we treated them. 🦢

A reminder to all anglers: please take your fishing line, hooks and tackle home with you or use a designated disposal bin. The Victorian Fisheries Authority advises that old fishing line should be placed in bins, or if there are no bins available, taken home, cut up and disposed of in general waste. Their Seal the Loop program also provides dedicated bins for unwanted fishing line, hooks, netting and rope. (VFA)

Discarded fishing gear can cause entanglement, injury and even death to wildlife. A few extra seconds to dispose of your gear properly can make a huge difference. 💔

🎣 Fish responsibly. Dispose responsibly. Protect our wildlife. A big thanks for the wildlife careers for bringing this amazing swan in and thanks to our team for helping 🫶🏼

Tick season is here!

Please take time to ensure ALL of your animals are up to date with tick prevention (even the cats that don't go outside majority of the time) as just when you think it won't happen to your animal, it will.
If your animal is experiencing ANY of these symptoms please bring them straight down to us:
- Ataxia/weakness particularly in the back legs
- Change in bark or meow
- Vomiting/gagging even if nothing is produced
- Laboured breathing
- Increased respiratory effort and sounds

If you have found a tick on your pet but they are not yet showing any of those symptoms, please contact us on 4054 1755.

Meet The Team!

Hannah Kipping
Practice Manager & Veterinary Nurse

Hannah started with the Greencross team in Townsville. She moved to Cairns to become our Practice Manager after many years of experience. She enjoys all aspects of General Practice and is very dedicated. Most days she can be found organising staff & supplies so that we are always ready to treat the animals with the latest treatments. Outside of work, Hannah & her Border Collie, Chip, can be found exploring the various swimming spots of North Queensland.

Hannah is very excited about the future of the clinic & the upcoming services that we will be able to provide to the community.

Meet The Team!

Kate Warner
Veterinary Nurse

Kate has recently started with the Greencross Cairns team, after completing her Cert IV at Tafe Gold Coast. Kate has a passion for feline medicine and making sure that all our patients are comfortable & feel loved while in clinic.

Kate has a cat named Dougal who she adopted after having him as a foster from 4 weeks old. She also has a kitten named Reginald who was found as a stray, but is now a loved member of her family. Kate is fascinated with Maine C***s and would appreciate anyone who owns a Maine C**n to bring them in for her to cuddle!
