Handsome Winston visited us recently for his wellness examination where some newer lumps were also found. He recently returned to have them surgically removed.

Winstonโ€™s lumps were sent away for histopathology to determine what types of lumps they are, and check for surgical margins. We are pleased to report that Winstonโ€™s lumps were removed in entirety.

Why do we recommend pre-anaesthetic bloodwork before a procedure? ๐Ÿฉธ

Pre-anaesthetic blood work panels allow us to screen for any abnormalities in organ function or changes suggestive of certain conditions. Harriet was initially scheduled for a dental procedure, but her screening blood tests suggested that she was diabetic! Follow up tests confirmed that Harriet had Diabetes Mellitus, which is analogous to type 2 diabetes in humans.

With early diagnosis, Harriet was started in therapy to manage her diabetes. Once she was stable, she returned for her dental procedure and we are pleased to report she is recovering well.

Did you know pets with uncontrolled diabetes can affect immune defence and allow worsening of dental disease and also affect healing, amongst other things?

Meet the team Mondays ๐Ÿ‘‹

Introducing Dr Shannon! Shannon is our new graduate vet & is loving her role with us. You may have had the pleasure of meeting her recently in the clinic, if not, here are some fun facts about her.

Dr Shannon studied at the University of Sydney & her favourite subject was clinical pathology.
Clinical pathology is focused on diagnosing & treating disease by testing samples such as blood & urine.

Shannon has a bit of an adventurous side! On her first time snorkelling, a shark was spotted and people had to be evacuated from the water. One day she would love to swim with whale sharks, turtles and manta rays.

She always wanted to have a job that helps people in some aspect. Shannon became set on becoming a vet when she was 16, after completing work experience at her local vet & being offered a job as an animal attendant. Since working & studying to become a vet, she has realised she loves being a vet because she can help people by treating and caring for their beloved pets.

Interestingly, Dr Shannon is obsessed with Kung Fu Panda (specifically movies 1 and 2) & this is her favourite trivia subject!

Weekends for Shannon involve watching her friends play sport eg, volleyball and soccer, and sharing a meal with loved ones. Important to note, Shannon is a fabulous cook!

If Dr Shannon had taken a different path in her career, she would have chosen to be a midwife or Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner/acupuncturist.

If she could have any pet, Shannon would love some fancy goldfish, Eastern Pilbara Spiny-tailed skinks, mini lop bunnies or budgies.

Dr Shannon's bucket list involves a trip to Norway/Iceland to see the Northern Lights.

Have you ever seen as stylish a guinea pig as Lila? ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Lila had to have her front leg amputated with us when she was only 6 months old due to a severe fracture of her elbow. She has had regular laser therapy ever since to help with her mobility as she must compensate on three legs instead.

Thanks to a combination of therapies, Lila lives a normal life and is just as mobile as any other guinea pigs 3 years on - she even out runs her friends!
