EOI Lusosporthorse stallion

Happyvale Leo is 12 yo Buckskin stallion. Dual Registered LusoSporthorse and Friesian Warmblood. He has successfully crossed with WB, Andalusian, Stockhorse and Arabian Mares to produce well-tempered, well performed horses. He stamps his progeny with substance of body and mind. He can produce all base colours (red, bay, black) and cream.
As I plan on concentrating on purebreds, he is available for sale.
This is a sad decision for me as he is a wonderful Stallion. A good home is important to me. He has been broken to saddle but does not have a lot of ridden exposure. Having said that, he has been ridden at home, in the bush and in some clinics. He has been well behaved alone and in company. He has been floated with mares and fillies without any trouble. He has been shown at a few shows including the Royal Show and was a pleasure. He is easy to handle and hand serves as well as paddock serves.
I am looking for expressions of interest for either;
To sell as is now – not in ridden work as a stallion.
To sell later with further ridden work as a stallion, call to discuss.
After this season he can be gelded and sold with further ridden work, call to discuss.
Available for service for this season until sold.

If you are interested as a gelding but are concerned about studly behaviour. I have had a stallion in the past that was gelded late after having hand and paddock served. He went on to be a fantastic reliable ride without any behaviour issues and an easy ride, and is ridden by beginners. Leo is well behaved even as a stud.

I've seen a fair few comments of ASHS members noting that they are considering leaving ASHS with the proposed changes. Make sure you have enrolled to vote and if you have handed over your proxy, nake sure your vote is used the way you intend.

The ASHS Board meeting scheduled to be held in Melbourne is now less than two weeks away.

The looming decision to change the qualifications for the ASHS studbook will ultimately change the very nature of the ASHS breed itself.

It is deeply concerning that there appears to be a serious conflict of interest within the Board itself, given that at least four Board members own - or have previously owned - Heritage Stock Horse Stallions.

It raises the possibility that the new proposed Registry may give those individuals the opportunity - or, at least, the perceived opportunity- of considerable financial advantage over the majority of the ASHS membership.

It is deeply concerning that these changes have not been made at a detached, arms-length level by suitably qualified individuals or by outside advisors to the ASHS, but rather, by those who may appear to be personally invested in the outcome.

It could be alleged that members of the Board are voting along the lines of self interest rather than for the greater good of the society itself.

Australian Corporate rules make it abundantly clear that those with any vested interest or suggested conflict of interest must excuse themselves, leave the room and not participate in the vote..

In his explanation of the changes to ASHS members, Chairman Larry Cutler - who is the owner of a Heritage stallion - encourages members to give him their proxies.

The ASHS has welcomed many different breeds and bloodlines into its stud book since its inception in 1971.

The greatest selection process of any breed of horse - or any breed of cattle - will always be in the performance ring and in the sale ring Itself.

We strongly suggest that all members of the ASHS now consider very carefully how they intend to vote because these proposed changes will have a massive flow-on affect, not only on the future of the breed itself but also on the membership and the financial future of the ASHS.

We must also take the time to carefully consider the current, deeply daunting financial reality of Australia.

We are heading into a serious national recession with widespread drought conditions right across eastern Australia.

This will inevitably affect almost every single member as well - and how much they are willing to spend on their horses.

Therefore, please make sure you fully understand the voting process and that you log on to the AGM meeting to get your QR Code which will then allow you to either vote online or organise a proxy vote.

This must happen before the 22 May.

For the upcoming ASHS AGM some very interesting analysis of the proposed changes to the registration rules.

As a long‑time HSH breeder from a 70‑year family program, I started working through the proposed ASHS constitutional changes (Motion 6 at the upcoming AGM) to understand how they would affect my breeding program. That exercise grew into a detailed analysis using actual pedigrees to trace foal outcomes under the new rules.

Key points I identified:

📍 Across the ASHS’s own formal documents, the way the constitutional changes are described has shifted over time – from percentage‑based thresholds to HSH‑ancestor counts – leaving members with different understandings of how the same proposed rules would actually operate in practice.

📍 The proposed system does not affect breeders uniformly, and it appears to restrict breeding options more widely than is suggested in the formal ASHS documentation.

📍Stud Book non‑HSH horses are directly affected when bred to anything other than an HSH‑suffixed or C2 horse, with some matings that currently produce C2 or C1 foals instead resulting in Base Registry or ineligible progeny.

📍 Under the proposed rules, the same mating (e.g., C2 × C1) can lead to very different outcomes – C2, C1, Base or Not Eligible – depending on exactly where the HSH‑suffixed ancestors sit in the pedigree, so breeders can no longer predict a foal’s registration from the parents’ categories alone.

📍 The proposed stallion promotion can upgrade some BASE stallions to C1, but it is unclear how this will be applied or recorded, and an upgraded sire does not always improve foal outcomes compared with the current system.

📍 Members are being asked to vote on constitutional changes without seeing the detailed Rules and Regulations that will be used to implement them, so they cannot yet know how the new system will be applied.

The report is my independent analysis intended to help breeders make informed decisions before the AGM. I am hoping it helps spark constructive, respectful conversation among members about the practical effects of the constitutional changes, so we can work together on solutions without personal criticism or negativity.
