*REHOMING* Mango and Gnocchi are two long term boarding birds that now need to find a new home. If you are interested please private message this page and I can forward a rehoming application to you.

A little bit about them from their owner:

Mango and Gnocchi are looking for a new loving home as I am relocating and sadly Rainbow Lorikeets are prohibited.

Mango (7y/o male Lutino Rainbow Lorikeet) is a very energetic expressive character. He likes to play and chat (vocabulary such as hello, scratch scratch, come here, etc) and, if you're lucky, cuddle. He is best handled individually and away from Gnocchi. Mango is an attention loving bird but unfortunately, his high energy can be expressed as aggression when he gets too excited and worked up. The intensity of this behaviour fluctuates and is managed through diet. Mango is also microchipped.

Gnocchi (6y/o male Olive Rainbow Lorikeet) is a gentle and inquisitive character. He shows more interest in exploring the room he’s in than hanging around humans, but he will step up and sit on your shoulder sometimes. He speaks a few words too, learning from Mango. He has some cage/food aggression easily managed by external access food containers.

The two boys have been sharing a home and cage the past 5yrs and have developed a brotherly bond. They are both flighted and enjoy daily time out of their cage.

Ideally they will be kept together in a home without any female lorikeets, due to their bond and behaviours. Consideration for separate homes may be given if the circumstances for both homes are right.

*Expressions of interest*

JD is a 17yo male cockatiel who looks amazing for his age. His owner is having some ongoing health issues so we what to explore the options we have for JD. We aren’t in a position yet where rehoming is a necessity but we wanted to see if there are any clients that would be interested/consider adding JD to their household. He has lived with other cockatiels in the past but is currently a single bird. If you would like any further information please contact me direct.

Today we managed to stock up on paperbark perches for our hire cages. It’s been a while since we have a good supply of paperbark and it’s definitely a favorite with many birds! What perches or branches do your birds enjoy?

Dr Brock Warren has officially passed his Membership examinations in Avian Medicine and Surgery, joining Dr Vanessa in the Avian Chapter of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists. 🦜✨

This milestone recognises Brock’s deep knowledge, clinical skill, and commitment to continuing education in avian health. It also marks the achievement of a personal goal he’s been working towards for over 10 years—ever since graduating high school. 💪

To top it off, Dr Brock has been awarded the Alexandr Mastakov Memorial Award, given to the highest-scoring candidate in the Avian Medicine exams across Australia and New Zealand! 🏆

Wildlife Rescue Queensland is expanding into Brisbane!

If you have considered being a part of a Wildlife Rescue organization WRQ is a fantastic group to be a part of. Whether it is doing admin work or hotline shifts from home, driving the ambulance to help collect wildlife or caring for the animals themselves, there is a place for you to donate your time. Every little bit helps.

We have been busy the last few days with triage and supportive care with some of our amazing off shore seabird species that have been caught up in the strong winds of cyclone Alfred. If you do come across any injured wildlife please call Wildlife Rescue Queensland.

Thankfully we came out the other side with some rain but no destructive winds or power loss and are operating as normal.

It’s great to be a part of such an amazing Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release organization! If you have an interest in our Australian wildlife and would love to help them out we have many areas within the organization that you can be a part of. From the rescues, admin, caring and releases. Maybe this year is the time to join. 😉

Sick of the mess a foraging tray makes? A Seedmate is a great way to contain the foraging medium for your birds to forage within. We love the way this client has used cardboard to make cleaning up any faeces easy and a Traymate to easily clean out the litter and pellets. How do you use your Seedmate at home?

Well that’s a wrap! After 18years working at BBV I decided it’s time to say farewell. It’s bittersweet but our businesses are growing and it’s time to put all my attention into D’Aguilar Wildlife and BBB. Lots of memories to hold onto and lifelong friendships made over the years.

What does this mean for BBB customers?
Pick ups and drop offs will solely be at Wamuran from now on. I will no longer have access to check files myself so please make sure all birds are up to date with their annual health checks and testing required. If possible, if you could have records sent through ahead of booking a holiday so I have all information to approve your stay. 🧳🐥

Rizzo is a 12 year old Blue Fronted Amazon and due to our changing circumstances we can no longer give her the best life. She has always been fully flighted and enjoys a short time out of her cage most mornings. She loves human company, a scratch to the back of her head and to share your food. She has a small vocabulary: hello Rizzo, peek-a-boo, what you doing? and whistles Bridge on the River Kwai theme song. Her diet consists of VetaFarm South American pellets and fresh fruit and vegetables. She has no behavioural issues .
Her annual vet visits are up to date, as of September 2023 and she has a clean bill of health.

Baffle cages have been around for many years however they are still one of the best foraging toys in my opinion. If you have a baffle cage at home that your bird uses, we highly recommend bringing it along for your birds stay. Baffles cages can have many uses from hiding fruit and veg to putting used toy parts in along with native nuts and browse. These are some of the birds on holiday with us having their breakfast this morning.
