Fishing gear and tackle boxes can be more tempting than you think!

This cheeky pup helped themselves to an entire stash of soft plastic fishing lures (squidgies) and ended up needing a trip to the vet to safely induce vomiting.

While soft plastics might look harmless, they aren’t digestible and can cause stomach irritation or even a dangerous intestinal blockage if they pass further into the digestive tract. Some fishing gear may also contain hooks, sinkers, or other hazardous items.

If you think your dog has swallowed fishing lures or anything they shouldn’t have, don’t wait for symptoms to appear. Contact your vet as soon as possible as early treatment can often prevent a much bigger (and more expensive) problem.

Keep tackle boxes stored well out of curious noses reach because apparently squidgies are a gourmet snack now. 🎣
