**** Atopic dermatitis ****
Atopic dermatitis is a long term skin condition that causes itchiness, irritation and inflammation of the skin.
This condition is similar to hay fever in humans, but instead of sneezing the animals skin is affected.
Some sypmtoms to look out for:
- Itchiness.
- Liking or chew at paws.
- Rubbing there face or body on surfaces like furniture or floors.
- Can have reoccuring ear infections.
Some pets an have atopic dermatitis all year round were other's may only have it seasonal.
How can this be managed?
Good question, you do have to remember that every pet is different so treatment is tailored to there individual needs. But these can be a few treatment plans:
- Itchy control.
- Skin care.
- Ear care.
- Diet trials.
- Treating infections.
- Allergy management.
Atopic dermatitis is a chronic condition, so your pet may have good periods and occasional flare-ups. But the goal is not simply to treat the itch when it appears, but to develop a long-term management plan that keeps your pet comfortable and their skin healthy.
