**** Atopic dermatitis ****
Atopic dermatitis is a long term skin condition that causes itchiness, irritation and inflammation of the skin.
This condition is similar to hay fever in humans, but instead of sneezing the animals skin is affected.

Some sypmtoms to look out for:
- Itchiness.
- Liking or chew at paws.
- Rubbing there face or body on surfaces like furniture or floors.
- Can have reoccuring ear infections.

Some pets an have atopic dermatitis all year round were other's may only have it seasonal.

How can this be managed?
Good question, you do have to remember that every pet is different so treatment is tailored to there individual needs. But these can be a few treatment plans:
- Itchy control.
- Skin care.
- Ear care.
- Diet trials.
- Treating infections.
- Allergy management.

Atopic dermatitis is a chronic condition, so your pet may have good periods and occasional flare-ups. But the goal is not simply to treat the itch when it appears, but to develop a long-term management plan that keeps your pet comfortable and their skin healthy.

If your pet is becoming increasingly itchy, developing red or sore skin, or having recurrent ear infections, please contact our team to book in for an assessment.

Parasites can become a big problem. Prevention is always the key instead of waiting until you can see the parasite.

- Worms: Worms live in the digestive track of our pets. Intestinal worms doesn't only affect animals but also humans. If left untreated it can cause severe health issues like weight loss, poor growth and anemia.

- Fleas: Don't wait until you can see fleas as they would have taken over your home by now. If fleas are left untreated they can cause skin irritation, significant itchiness and some diseases.

- Ticks: Ticks mainly come from bushes or grassland when your pet goes exploring. They can transmit dangerous toxin and diseases. If left untreated it can cause weakness, troubled breathing and vomiting.

If your pet is due or you haven't prevented for these parasites yet give us a call on 5722 4200 and we will point you in the right direction for the best prevention.

Spring starts today!
As the weather warms up your pet will want to spend more time outdoors.
Unfortunately, our pets have curious noses and playful paws which can lead to unpleasant encounters with animals like bee's, wasp's and ant's.

Signs that your animal has been stung by something:
- Sudden yelp or crying out.
- Swelling around sting site.
- Redness and irritation.
- Excessive licking and chewing at area.

What you can do at home if you notice these mild symptoms:
1) Keep your pet calm and try to locate the stinger if possible.
2) If you see the stinger try and scrape it away with a credit card or something similar. Avoid using tweezer's as you can release more venom.
3) Place an ice pack on area for about 5-10 mins at a time.
4) Monitor animal closely for the next several hours incase symptoms get worse.

If you notice that your pet is having a severe allergic rection where they are struggling to breath due to too much swelling around throat or your animal has collasped please seek veterinary attention immediately, as these syptoms can be life threatening.

**** Aquadent (Water additive) ****
Aquadent Fresh is a water additive for dogs and cats over 6 months of age that helps support good hygiene and controls bad breaths.

How it works:

- Aquadent is a supportive home-care product, not a replacement for professional dental examinations, dental cleaning when indicated, or toothbrushing. Toothbrushing remains the gold standard for daily plaque control.
- It is palatable and proven to ensure it is readily accepted with no reduction in water consumption.
- So convenient and simple to use, just add to daily drinking water. Even comes with its own dosing cap.
