Little Fergy and Tilly Monster have been spending lots more time out with the main flock recently. I haven't seen youngins find their way with the big flock quite so quickly, and it's lucky that they have, because they had to skip the phase where we move them in with the special needs crew for a spell as Matilda chases fully grown Sheep and they run in terror 🫣, we don't call her 'Little Monster' for nuthin'! This is perhaps also why the older sheep don't mess with these 2 🤣

Fergus is already boofing and butting with last year's Lambie rescues, determined to win a place that is not the bottom of the hierarchy and make pals. The ratbags and scally wags will definitely be his cohort. These 2 are still the best of buds and so sweet! They still come into their inside shed pen every night to sleep and I don't think they intend on stopping that anytime soon!

What do we do with the wool shorn from the Shear Existence sheep? We scatter it as mulch for the native trees, and birds forage it for their nests ❤️

🚨This fundraiser needs attention 🚨
Leah has helped so many animals that she needed to pull off the miracle of buying a bigger property while funding an entire Sanctuary, and she did it! These animals are at Free Spirits Sheep Sanctuary because people messaged, called and said 'please help me', and she did!
Now that the organisation has a new home and Leah needs help, the fundraiser has stalled. We need to get it moving!! This is a miracle and a paradise for animals in our area, you will be helping something special if you even give it a share ❤️

Since 2017, we have opened our gates to farm animals who had nowhere else to go.

Just a poor sick little lady waiting for her blood test results!

We have taken Penny into the vets on both evenings over the weekend, she has been sick for 3 days. After x-rays, blood tests and examination, we still don't know what's wrong yet, so we planned with the vet to take her back in this morning while the clinic is open and staffed for more tests and an IV.

We have been at the vets 4 days this week for Fergus and Matilda lambs, Gloria the Chicken, and Penny. Gloria and Penny have been a great worry and it's made me realise how traumatised I am. When you care for a lot of compromised animals, you see a lot of death, a lot of souls take their last breath. Outwardly I don't respond the same way I once did. I can be detached from my feelings and under reacting to my grief, but it all lives in me, and there are times I just get so scared I'm going to lose someone, and that's how I've felt about Gloria and Penny this week...panicked and scared... prematurely perhaps, but I've learned that things can happen so fast and fear the worst.

4 appointments with another hospitalisation today, 2 of them emergency weekend call outs, tests and scans, we are looking at the several thousands. If rage and fury had a face, here it is! Poor Gloria was already done having twice daily meds and then we spring a vet trip on her! Off we toodled up the freeway where Gloria felt thoroughly interfered with!

Gloria is one of the precious gals you all helped us fundraise a Omlet run for recently when we unexpectedly welcomed a second flock of discarded back yard hens (and Ketut 🐓) to the Sanctuary. She arrived full of fluid and unwell, experiencing all the common reproductive symptoms that plague Isa Brown hens, and others that have been selectively bred and mistaken for egg laying machines

Gloria needs to be routinely implanted with Suprelorin implants for the rest of her life, otherwise she will die. The hormonal implant stops her body from trying to lay eggs (ovulating), increases her life span and bolstering her quality of life. Our Hens require these every 6 months, and some, like Gloria, a little more often, which is why her little body filled with fluid that needed to be drained before she was implanted yesterday

As you can see in the second slide, it's not cheeeep (get it!!!), but it's the absolute least these ladies deserve. We scrapped the barrel to pay for this after a Sheepie vet appointment yesterday, if you could help us cover the $530 Vet cost, I can't tell you what it would mean! (Invoice in second picture)

We also love to welcome new Flock Mates! Sign on as a reoccurring donor to offer individuals like Gloria life long care. We have worked so hard to be able to get a pre approval to buy a property for the Sanctuary, and the bank is getting the last squeeze out of us before they say yes. Poor Jem has to sell his beloved motorbike to get us over the line and raise the last $10,000🥲, so if you know of anyone after a very sexy Harley, please send them our way! Post link in comments

Flash back to spring 6 years ago when I was trying to calibrate my nervous system by enjoying the first warm spring day after winter...Animals had other ideas!

I used to do fun things like this, I find it really hard to do now and I hardly ever have my phone on me when I'm out with the animals, but I love to look back on so many funny moments I've captured and maybe I need to make sure I take my phone out with me a little more often ❤️
