Miss Gypsy Moon in her very first photo, moments after her rescue in May 2020, and again today! (Goodness those 6 years have aged me double that 🫠)

She was a very delightfully unusual looking lamb, long legs and she almost looked like she had been stretched, but she grew into the most beautiful girl...not that we aren't extreme appreciators of the unusual around here 🥳

Gypsy was almost 8kg at birth, for those that don't know, that's the weight of 2 healthy lambs combined, no wonder her poor Mama had complications. Many Ewes sadly run into trouble giving birth as a result of many people selectively breeding their flocks to achieve both multiple births and/or large lambs to maximise profits, with the sheep paying the real price

Gypsy sleeps like she is dead, literally...she gives us daily heart attacks because she is sprawled out in relaxed bliss, dreaming away with not a care in the world. We are so happy she feels content and safe but our nervous systems are a little more wired thanks to her 🤣

Sheep are so misunderstood and under appreciated. They are such clever creatures with rich and full lives and we are all the better for knowing them 💕

Poor little Fergus has developed a cough today and his temperature is on the tippy high end of normal. It's not unusual for these babies to develop infections, being born in very unhygienic places, like the abattoir Fergus was born at, leaves them very susceptible to illness. Add to all of that not having their mother's TLC and opportunity to drink her nourishing milk, plus stress and trauma of all he endured, well it really makes sense how nasty bugs can set in

But don't worry about Fergus, he is still bright and happy despite the photo, he just absolutely loves a cuddle and will just melts in your arms. Fergus has had medi and is being kept inside nice and warm through our cold wet weather, we are hopeful he will be feeling fabulous again very soon! 💕

🚨🐓UPDATE only $356 to go now🐓🚨
OK chicken fans and friends, we ONLY have $406 left until we can buy this elusive enclosure, and the time has to be now!! 🏡🐓

Lorna Hobbs, Rose Dewitt-Bukator, Boudica, Gloria Swanson, and their boy Ketut didn't survive a backyard to stay cramped up in a temporary setup. It’s taken far too long, and we really need your help to finally cross the finish line for their $3,049 predator-proof run

Tomorrow is the day. I MUST order their new run, and if we can't raise the last of the funds, I will have to get them a smaller setup which would absolutely suck!

There is no backup fund. We have a $1,400 outstanding hay bill that constantly respawns, a vet bill pushing $2,000, and many more costs with almost all the funds coming straight from mine and Jem's personal accounts.
We do not want to give these babies a home less than they deserve, and we don't want to lose the opportunity to use this second chicken pad to help even more neglected backyard hens and factory-farmed ladies in the future, if it's too small, then the opportunity is missed!

There are tons of details in our bio link to help you see why this wee little family is a crew worth fighting for. Please, please, PLEASE help us hit our target tonight! I really hope the next post I do about these guys is showing you their awesome new home 🛠️✨

How you can help us finish this tonight????
Donate, share and comment to help us make this happen for this beautiful little family, we are so grateful for all support

All the details you need are here about who, why and how....

🐑 Hello Fergus 🐑

The confidence with which this big baby strolled into our world momentarily distracts one from the horror-laden path he traveled to get here.

Fergus was born in a slaughterhouse holding pen while his mother was awaiting her human-induced fate. Despite the terrifying predicament she found herself in, Fergus's mum cleaned him, nourished him with colostrum, and did the very best a mother could do given her dire situation.

When Fergus's Mum and her flock were herded into the abattoir, Fergus was left in the holding pen alone. The fear and terror he faced is a baby's worst nightmare, and the trauma is blatantly obvious when they come into care...terrified of being left alone, having nightmares, and awakening startled and unable to settle. It's a blessing these babies trust us at all, and a credit to their kind and gentle nature.

Pregnant ewes are not meant to be sent to slaughter, but I was given figures of how many lambs' lives are ended by a rifle at this facility, and it is truly despairing. This is not an abnormality, but a common occurrence we have seen time and time again. This particular abattoir will hand some lambs over if there is someone willing to take them, and so Fergus got his first stroke of luck. His second was being surrendered to a rescue, he had a severe entropion eyelid, where the bottom eyelid rolls inward, causing the eyelashes to scratch the eyeball (ouch!). The person who had him was contemplating ending his life over this treatable condition, and thank goodness they didn't.

Today Fergus went to the vet for treatment, and he is doing remarkably well. We have been caring for him at home, and thankfully he does not need surgery, just some ointment and TLC as it heals. He does have some vision loss due to ulceration and scarring, but we hope he regains most of it. Time will tell and we will monitor and act if we need to.

We would be grateful for any support in taking care of both Fergus and Matilda, it's not cheap but oh so worth it. They need vets, milk, nappies, chaff, hay, and more so they can grow up nice and strong.

A new little someone arrived last night, he has a story of luck and survival against the odds, like they all do. It overwhelms my heart to know the suffering, trauma and fear these most innocent of beings endure. At least this fellow made it to Sanctuary, that's a miracle in itself! More to come soon...

So far Matilda is being an Ice Queen. She isn't mean to him, just pretends he doesn't exist...which is kinda mean I guess but it's another big change for her, she was just very much accustomed to being an only child. They will make friends though and Tilds will be all the happier for it after she adjusts and has a buddy to play and cuddle with ❤️

Sal and Grindles 🦃🦃
Double Trouble does not even begin to describe these two. They are absolute menaces to everyone, especially the sheep, and they have a blast doing it, with not one single regret. They are so nosey, there is absolutely no way we are doing anything around here without them investigating and being heavily involved. I’ve officially lost count of how many bruises they have bestowed upon me!

I see so many stories about how sweet turkeys are and how much they love cuddles. Not these two! They are testosterone packed maniacs with fun to be had and terror to reign down on the sheep, or anyone else who mildly offends them.

But doesn't that just prove the point of how individual they all are? They are their own little someones, with a life to live filled with choices to make. While some people are cuddling their turkey family, others are saying, "Guys, please don't start your 💩 today!" (Yep, that’s us!) 😆

After being born in a factory farm and rescued well over three years ago now, we say power to you, boys! Living at a sanctuary means you get to be you. They owe us nothing, and they deserve every bit of joy and freedom we can offer ❤️

Ketut, Gloria Swanson, Boudica, Rose Dewitt-Bukator and Lorna Hobbs are a flock consisting of one adorable Roo and 4 Isa Brown hens

Assistance was requested for us to help this family as they were being moved on now that the girls laying had slowed down, and replaced with younger hens. They are not machines, they are precious souls who deserve a loving home. This was unexpected and has introduced an entire second flock to the Sanctuary

All 5 were treated for scaley leg mite and other parasites, Lorna Hobbs and Gloria Swanson saw the vet, Lorna had a respiratory infection and Gloria had the reproductive issues that plague Isa Browns and required antibiotics and an implant. All 5 are now doing very well

Sanctuaries like us received countless requests to help animals, we provide a valuable service to the community, we are proud and devoted to helping animals in need. But as a registered charity, we cannot keep up with the costs alone. There is no magic money or government grants, it's just us and a few legends who donate...but we really need a few more legends in our corner right now. I simply cannot work enough to cover the costs, there aren't enough hours in the day and the burnout is real (hence me being sick AGAIN! 🥲)

Pretty please with a 🍒 on top help us meet our goal, and if we have met our goal, please don't turn away. We have vet bills and hay bills that we could use a few hands with too!

Donation link below!! The link also has more details and photos of this little family.
We are tax deductible in Aus, claim any donation over $2 in your tax return 💕
