If you notice your pet scratching excessively, chewing their paws, or showing signs of weakness/wobbly back legs, it's time for a check-up. Spring pollen can trigger intense skin allergies, while a tick bite is a true medical emergency.

Protect your pet this season by:
Doing a daily "finger-walk": Feel through their fur, focusing closely on the face, neck, ears, and between their toes.

Wiping them down: Wipe down their paws and belly with a damp cloth after outdoor walks to remove pollen and grass seeds.

Checking the calendar: Make sure their flea, worm, and tick preventatives are completely up to date.

Don't wait for symptoms to appear! Chat with us about the best preventative plan for your area.

Protect Your Pet from Fleas, Ticks and More!

Flea and tick prevention is one of the simplest and most important ways to keep your pet healthy and comfortable year-round.

✅ Helps protect against potentially life-threatening paralysis ticks, which can cause breathing difficulties and paralysis.
✅ Reduces itching and skin irritation caused by flea infestations.
✅ Helps prevent anaemia, particularly in young or small pets affected by fleas.
✅ Protects against parasites such as tapeworms that can be transmitted by fleas.
✅ Helps reduce the risk of diseases that can be spread from animals to people.

Keeping your pet up to date with parasite prevention is an important part of their overall health care and wellbeing.

To Our Incredible Vet Nurses... Thank You

This week, we want to take a moment to celebrate the amazing veterinary nurses at Wallsend Vet Clinic.

Quite simply, we couldn't do what we do without you.

You are the backbone of our clinic and the heart behind so much of the care we provide every single day. You are advocates, protectors, carers, educators, comforters, and tireless champions for every animal that walks through our doors.

You monitor anaesthetics, assist in surgeries, care for hospital patients, run diagnostic tests, administer medications, comfort frightened pets, support worried owners, maintain equipment, prepare treatment plans, keep everything running behind the scenes, and somehow still find time for cuddles, kisses, and endless reassurance for both pets and their people.

You are there for the first wagging tail of the morning and the last patient needing care at the end of the day. You celebrate the wins, carry the weight of the difficult days, and give every patient the love and compassion they deserve.

Your kindness, dedication, skill, and strength shine through in everything you do. The long hours, the emotional challenges, the physical demands, and the countless tasks that often go unseen never go unnoticed by us.

Every patient that leaves healthier, every frightened pet that feels safe, every client who feels supported, and every success story we celebrate has your fingerprints on it.

Thank you for your unwavering commitment to animal welfare. Thank you for your compassion when it matters most. Thank you for being the calm in stressful moments, the voice for those who cannot speak, and the hands that help heal.

Most of all, thank you for caring so deeply.

We are endlessly grateful for each and every one of you. Our clinic, our patients, and our community are better because of the work you do every day.

Happy Vet Nurse Appreciation Week to our incredible team. You are valued, appreciated, and loved more than words can express.

Is 'dog breath' really normal?

The short answer: No! While your pet’s breath might not smell like mint, a strong, foul odor is often the first warning sign of periodontal (gum) disease.

When bacteria and plaque build up under the gumline, it causes infection and decay, which is what you are actually smelling.

The good news? It’s completely preventable!

Tip of the week: Flip your pet's lip! Check for red gums or yellow-brown tartar on their teeth. If you spot it, it's time for a professional dental check.
