We are proud to introduce Ferndale Mystique, one of our new kids from our artificial insemination program, backed by generations of carefully selected genetics and influential imported bloodlines.

Mystique’s pedigree reflects many years of dedication by Zodiac and the studs before them, each carefully selecting and developing these bloodlines. Her granddam, Voodoo, is a particularly special part of that pedigree, combining the imported genetics of Twincreeks RM Watermark ND USA and Castle Rock Guy Noir ND USA.

Seeing these two significant imported sires come together through Voodoo, and continue through to Mystique, highlights the depth of genetics behind her.

Mystique represents generations of planning, selection and commitment to producing quality Nigerian Dwarfs, and we are pleased to have her carrying those genetics forward at Ferndale Goats.

How lucky are we that our grandchildren get to grow up surrounded by animals, learning from such a young age how to care for them, be gentle with them and respect them.

A very special arrival at Ferndale Goats — our first ever AI kids are here! 🐐❤️

Tilly safely delivered her quintuplets — 2 girls and 3 boys. Pokey welcomed a single little girl and has very happily adopted one of Tilly’s babies as her own.

Xanadu also delivered 2 boys, while Heather welcomed 1 boy and 2 girls.

Such an exciting milestone for us. We’re thrilled to have our first AI kids safely on the ground and can’t wait to watch them grow. 💕

We've all been there... those awkward teenage years! 😅

Some of us grow into ourselves a little sooner than others, and some take a bit more time. Thankfully, goats are no different.

The first photo was taken when Grace was going through what I'd politely call her "awkward phase." Long, gangly, unbalanced and definitely not the sort of goat that would have people stopping to admire her.

Fast forward to today... and look at her now! ❤️ She has matured into a beautiful, feminine doe with balance, style and presence... and an amazing udder.

It's a great reminder not to judge our goats too early. Young goats are constantly changing as they grow, and what you see at six or twelve months isn't necessarily what you'll have as a mature adult.

Patience is one of the hardest lessons in breeding. Sometimes the "ugly duckling" really does become the swan.

Every goat deserves the chance to mature before we decide their future.

I'd love to hear from other breeders. Have you ever had a goat that went through an awkward stage and completely surprised you as it matured? Share your before-and-after photos or tell us about the one you nearly gave up on but turned into something special!

One of the great joys of goat ownership is discovering new and creative ways to spend money.

This week's adventure involved a trip to the vet for surgery. Thankfully, our little patient sailed through the procedure and is now safely back home, acting as though absolutely nothing happened while the rest of us recover from the bill.

Keeping animals healthy isn't always glamorous, but seeing them happy, comfortable, and back to their usual mischievous selves makes it all worthwhile.
