Some pets come into our lives and leave footprints that stay with us forever.

Today we remember the much-loved companions who are no longer by our side — the ones who greeted us at the door, shared our routines, made us laugh and somehow always knew when we needed them most. ❤️

For our team, it’s also a day to remember the special patients we’ve had the privilege of knowing and caring for over the years.

Aural Haematomas in Pets 🐾👂

Have you noticed your pet’s ear suddenly looking swollen, puffy or like a little balloon?

It could be an aural haematoma — a pocket of blood that forms inside the ear flap, often after vigorous head shaking, trauma or scratching.

Common signs include:
🐶 A swollen, soft or firm ear flap
🐱 Frequent head shaking or scratching
👂 Redness, warmth or tenderness
😟 Discomfort when the ear is touched

Aural haematomas are often associated with an underlying ear problem, such as an ear infection, allergies, parasites or irritation. Treating the underlying cause is important to help prevent the problem from returning.

❌ Don’t try to drain the swelling at home.
If you notice a swollen ear, book an appointment with your veterinarian so they can examine the ear and recommend the most appropriate treatment.

Early attention can help keep your pet more comfortable and reduce the risk of long-term changes to the ear. ❤️

✨NOT ALL WOUNDS ARE THE SAME ✨

While many wounds heal quickly, some become chronic wounds that need extra veterinary care.
A wound may struggle to heal because of:
🐾 Infection
🐾 Licking or chewing
🐾 Constant movement over joints
🐾 Poor blood supply
🐾 Dead tissue or debris in the wound
🐾 Underlying health conditions

When this happens, simply waiting or applying home remedies might not enough. Your veterinarian may need to clean the wound surgically to remove unhealthy tissue and treat infection or potentially perform regular wound care and bandage changes.
Sometimes the skin is so damaged that wounds cannot be closed and so we treat them differently, with healing happening via secondary intention. This can be a lengthy process. It is essential during wound management to follow your vets instructions so that we can ensure the best outcome.

Puppy health checks are very important as they can help us identify and monitor developmental changes and allow us to intervene if necessary. This also essential opportunity for puppies to socialise in new environments.

And let’s be honest, cuddling puppies is good therapy for everyone! 🐶

Bentley visited last week for her desexing procedure and no, we are not sure whether she did know what she was doing at the vets. But, we do know she was a very good girl and got all of the cuddles (maybe she did know what she was doing after all).

All went smoothly and she went home to rest in her beautiful orange recovery suit. 🧡💚
