🚨 Parvovirus 🚨

With the recent cases of Parvovirus being reported in the surrounding South West area, we wanted to share some important information and simple ways to help reduce the risk 🐾

Parvovirus is highly contagious and can be carried through contaminated environments such as footwear, clothing and equipment - meaning your dog doesn’t necessarily need direct contact with an infected dog to be exposed.

The good news? There are steps you can take at home to help reduce the risk ❤️‍🩹

🌼 Spring Allergies 🌼

Is your pet feeling itchy?

Spring has arrived in the South West, and along with the warmer weather comes an increase in environmental allergens such as grasses, pollens and plants 🌱

Unlike people, pets often show allergy symptoms through their skin. Keep an eye out for -

🐾 Licking or chewing of paws
🐶 Recurrent red, itchy or smelly ears
🍃 Scratching, rubbing or excessive grooming
🔴 Red, irritated or inflamed skin

If your pet is itchy this spring, contact us today to arrange an appointment 💙

🐤 Duckling Season 🐤

Duckling season has begun, and we’ve already had some very small, and very cute arrivals needing a little warmth and care at Vasse Vets 💛

If you find ducklings alone, watch quietly from a safe distance first, as Mum may be nearby or temporarily out of sight. If she doesn’t return, the ducklings are injured or if they’re in immediate danger, please carry out the following steps to the best of your ability.

🦆 Gently gather all of the ducklings using a towel or light blanket
📦 Place them in a secure, ventilated box lined with a soft towel
🌡️ Keep them warm, quiet and away from pets and excessive handling
❌ Please DON’T offer food, pour water into their mouths or allow them to swim
🚗 Transport them to the nearest clinic to ensure they get the care they need
📞 Contact the team on 9755 4455 if you have any issues or concerns

Our handsome helper, Wolfie, is here with an important reminder for all our pet parents 🐾

If your pet is running low on medication, we kindly ask that you allow 24-48 hours notice when requesting a prescription 💙

This gives our team time to -
💊Review your pets medical history
💊Ensure that any required veterinary checks have been completed
💊Prepare and dispense medications safely
💊Order stock if needed

We understand that sometimes medication is needed sooner than planned. If you require your pets medication within the 24-48 hour notice period, an Urgent Medication Fee may apply to allow our team to prioritise your request whilst continuing to care for our scheduled appointments, surgeries and hospital patients.

We appreciate your understanding and support 💙

🐾 Fear-Free Felines 🐾

Many cats find travelling and visiting the vet stressful, but there are plenty of ways to help them feel more at ease!

Creating positive experiences with their carrier, travelling calmly, and using familiar scents can all help reduce anxiety before they even arrive.

Need extra support? Let us know before your next appointment - we’re here to help 💙
