Meet Frankie! 🐾

This tiny little Italian Greyhound came in for his vaccination and was quite possibly the cutest little patient we’ve had in our hands! 🥹

Frankie was so teeny, he practically fit in the palm of our hands. 🥰

Safe to say, we were all a little bit obsessed! 💚

Bird flu is making headlines, so Better Homes & Gardens asked Greencross Vets what it means for our pets.

Greencross Vets veterinarian Dr Nina shares practical advice to help pet parents understand the risks and take simple precautions.

“Bird flu can infect all mammals, so dogs, cats, rabbits and ferrets can all be infected.”

From avoiding contact with sick or dead wildlife to keeping cats indoors and dogs on a leash around wildlife, a few simple steps can help reduce exposure.

Read Dr Nina’s advice and the full Better Homes & Gardens article at:

🖤 A majestic visitor who never should have needed a trip to the vet.

This beautiful black swan was found with a fishing hook stuck in its mouth - a painful and completely preventable injury caused by discarded fishing gear.

Removing the hook required a general anaesthetic, along with pain relief to keep this feathered patient comfortable while we treated them. 🦢

A reminder to all anglers: please take your fishing line, hooks and tackle home with you or use a designated disposal bin. The Victorian Fisheries Authority advises that old fishing line should be placed in bins, or if there are no bins available, taken home, cut up and disposed of in general waste. Their Seal the Loop program also provides dedicated bins for unwanted fishing line, hooks, netting and rope. (VFA)

Discarded fishing gear can cause entanglement, injury and even death to wildlife. A few extra seconds to dispose of your gear properly can make a huge difference. 💔

🎣 Fish responsibly. Dispose responsibly. Protect our wildlife. A big thanks for the wildlife careers for bringing this amazing swan in and thanks to our team for helping 🫶🏼

Here are a few of our adorable feline patients who visited Greencross Vet Varsity Lakes for their health check.
Did you know that we have a purrsome crazy cat (vet) lady at Greencross Vet Varsity Lakes? Dr. Marcia adores all feline patients and she is very good at making sure all cat patients are comfortable during their visit and hospital stay.
Cats are pretty good at hiding their illness or pain. Because felines (cat family) are solitary animals in nature and need to hide their weakness to survive in the wild! Domesticated cats still have these cool instincts so it is essential to have a regular general check up.
Please visit us or give us a call on 0755934544 to make sure your feline friend is healthy and sound!

Let's talk about retained deciduous (baby) teeth!
Flynn, 5 month old Belgian Shepherd boy, presented to Greencross Varsity Lakes due to retained deciduous (baby) canine teeth. Puppies and kittens usually lose their baby teeth at around 4-5 months old but sometimes few of the baby teeth do not fall out naturally and may interfere with the growth of adult teeth. This may result in permanent malposition of the adult teeth and therefore malocclusion of the mouth! Also, infection of the gum between two crowded teeth is quite common to find.
Vets at Greencross can help to prevent this problem by extracting the retained teeth early. If you have any concerns or questions about your pet's dental health please call us on 07 55934544 and have a chat with one of our lovely team members!
