This team just gets better and better.

Our warm up consists of lots of stretching and leg yielding and once we know Maggie is listening we start to incorporate lots of changes of rein and our turns and spins. All no hands!!!

We walk and then build to the trot. In time the canter will be hands free, but for now the walk is amazing and the trot is smooth and rhythmic.

We are purposely and consistently working towards having Maggie hands free so when National Show rolls around our reins and hands are just an accessory.

This is something we at Brooklea Park Equestrian explain all the time. Keeping your hands on each side of the wither (imagine there is a wall that extends up towards the sky from the wither) hands should stay on their side.

The moment our hands cross, we are inadvertently asking for something else and our legs simply aren't working properly (or our horses are ignoring us) so we try stronger aids and a bit more responsiveness.

Horseland Maitland/ Raymond Terrace (and online) currently have 20% off helmets and safety vests. Be sure to check out their stock.

Great time to purchase for new riders joining our lesson crew, or give your head wear an upgrade.

Remember, helmets should be replaced after a fall or impact, and every 3-5 years.
