Our furry friends often hide the effects of ageing, but small changes can be early clues that they need extra care. Keep an eye out for:

🐕 Slower walks or stiffness
🐱 Less jumping or reluctance to climb
⚖️ Weight gain or loss
💧 Drinking more water than usual
💤 Sleeping more than normal
😺 Behaviour changes like irritability or confusion

These subtle signs can indicate arthritis, kidney disease, dental problems, or other age-related conditions. Early detection makes a big difference in comfort, mobility, and overall quality of life.

When is a pet considered “senior”? 🐾

It might surprise you to learn that many pets are considered senior from around 7 years of age (and sometimes even earlier for larger dog breeds).

As pets enter their golden years, their needs begin to change in subtle (and not-so-subtle) ways:

- Slower metabolism: They may gain or lose weight more easily
- Joint stiffness: Early signs of arthritis can appear
- Changes in behaviour: More sleeping, less play, or signs of confusion
- Increased risk of illness: Conditions like kidney disease, diabetes, and dental disease become more common
- Different nutritional needs: Senior diets can better support ageing bodies

Even if your pet seems perfectly healthy, many age-related conditions develop quietly. That’s why regular wellness checks and early screening are so important in the senior years.

💙 A simple check-up can make a big difference in keeping your pet comfortable, active, and happy for longer.

Tips to keep your senior pet comfy this winter 🐾❄️

As temperatures drop, older pets can feel the cold more than they used to. Small changes at home can make a big difference to their comfort and wellbeing, such as:

🚶Prioritise gently, regular movement: Short, steady walks help keep joints mobile and reduce stiffness from conditions like arthritis.

🍲 Maintain a health weight: Extra weight puts pressure on ageing joints, while being underweight can affect immunity and energy.

🦴 Support sore joints: Cold weather can worsen stiffness - monitor for signs of discomfort like slower movement or reluctance to jump.

💙 Watch for subtle health changes: Increased sleep, appetite changes, or mobility issues can be early signs your pet may need extra support.

🛏️ Keep them warm and cosy: Provide soft bedding in a draft-free area, and consider extra blankets or a heated pet bed.

Winter is also a great time to check in on your pet’s overall health.

Our Senior Winter Wellness Bundle is designed to help detect hidden issues early and keep your pet feeling their best through the colder months.
