Dosing carbonate (alkalinity) in a marine aquarium offers several essential benefits for maintaining a healthy and stable reef environment. Here are the primary advantages:
Maintains Stable pH Levels - Proper alkalinity helps buffer the water, preventing pH swings that can stress corals and marine life.
Supports Coral Skeletal Growth - Alkalinity is directly involved in the calcification process, enabling corals and calcifying invertebrates to build and maintain their skeletons more effectively.
Prevents Calcium Decline - As corals grow and deposit calcium carbonate, alkalinity tends to drop if not replenished, so dosing keeps levels optimal.
Promotes Healthy Reef Ecosystem - Stable alkalinity contributes to overall water chemistry balance, supporting consistent growth, coloration, and health of corals and invertebrates.
Enhances Reproduction and Repair - Proper alkalinity levels facilitate tissue repair and reproductive processes in corals and other reef organisms.
Balance alkalinity with calcium and magnesium to ensure overall parameter stability. Dosing carbonate (alkalinity) is vital for stable water chemistry, supporting coral skeletal growth, vibrant colors, and overall reef health. Consistent monitoring and proper supplementation help achieve a thriving marine ecosystem.
Our Carbonate + Trace is a concentrated source of liquid carbonate, 180,000 ppm (mg/L) or 10,000dKH and our own unique blend of trace elements. We have added our Coral Power Trace C elements as well as Boron and Bromide into this mix using our proven Coral Essentials Method dosing regiment. When using Carbonate + Trace there is no need to add additional trace elements.
For optimum results the alkalinity (KH) levels in marine tanks need to be checked regularly to determine the take up in your system. A We have found ideal KH levels to be at about 8-9 dKH for most aquariums.
1ml will raise the carbonate levels by 1.8ppm (0.1dKH) for each 100L of tank water.
