Cairns Horse and Pony Club, Trinity Beach: A Heartfelt Farewell
As we bid farewell to the Cairns Horse and Pony Club, Trinity Beach, a beloved institution that has shaped the lives of countless riders and equestrians over the years, it is essential to recognise those whose tireless efforts have kept our club alive and thriving — often out of the spotlight.
The club has a rich history dating back to 1982 when the original clubhouse was built by the local community with funds raised through dedicated efforts. Key figures such as Mr. Ron Norman, Mr. Bruce, and the Cavacevich family played pivotal roles in the construction, demonstrating what can be achieved when a community comes together with a shared vision. Their hard work and commitment laid the foundation for a community that has supported horse enthusiasts in Cairns for generations. The clubhouse became a gathering place for riders, families, and friends, fostering a sense of belonging and camaraderie that continues to this day. Our first instructors, Mary Scanlan and Bev Greenland, nurtured the skills and passion of our riders, setting the stage for the club’s ongoing legacy.
Over the years, many members have continued their riding careers, carrying the spirit of the Cairns Horse and Pony Club into new horizons. We proudly acknowledge Linda Crabbe, the talented Lucas Girls, Nina and Isabel, Neita Norman, Jenifer Hubbard, the Gibson family, and the Scanlan family, (just to name a few) whose dedication and commitment to equestrian sports have inspired both current and future generations of riders and still ride today.
The decision to close the Cairns Horse and Pony Club after many years of service has not been an easy one, particularly for those who have dedicated their time, energy, and love to our community. While we may be closing our doors, this is not a goodbye to the legacy and friendships built through hard work and passion for horses. It is a moment to honor the unsung heroes who have contributed significantly to the club’s journey.
One such individual is Patrick Scanlan, who has devoted over 35 years to the club, tackling the seemingly never-ending tasks of weeding, mowing, and maintaining our beloved grounds. His unwavering commitment to ensuring the facilities remain safe and welcoming for both horses and riders has left an indelible mark on the Cairns Horse and Pony Club community. Patrick epitomises the spirit of the good old aussie bloke that just getsin and helps out and dedication that defines our club.
We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the many other hidden heroes, from those who have organised events to the volunteers who have helped with maintenance and support behind the scenes. Whether it was setting up for competitions, managing paperwork, or simply lending a hand where needed, your contributions have not gone unnoticed. This club has thrived thanks to your selflessness, commitment, and passion for promoting equine sports and education.
As we close this chapter, we carry with us fond memories, valuable lessons, and a profound appreciation for the friendships forged here. Each of you has played a critical role in providing a safe and nurturing environment for riders of all ages, fostering not only skills but also lasting relationships.
While the Cairns Horse and Pony Club, Trinity Beach, may no longer be a place where horses and riders gather, the spirit of our hidden helpers will live on in the hearts of all who were touched by your kindness and dedication. Thank you for all you have done, and for being the true backbone of our community. Your legacy will not be forgotten, and we hope it inspires future generations of horse enthusiasts.
As we ride off into the sunset, let’s hold on to the memories, friendships, and countless moments shared at the Cairns Horse and Pony Club, Trinity Beach. Here’s to an incredible journey, all made possible by the hidden helpers who give selflessly to make our equestrian world a better place.
