Ranchlands Townsville's oldest horse riding school has been teaching adults and children to ride horses for 44 years. We cater for the 6 year old horse crazy child to the nervous any age adult, who has always wanted to ride, but never had the opportunity. Besides helping you to get fit and stay supple, you will meet like minded people and have a chance to interact with these wonderful animals. F

or most people it becomes a life long passion. Pupils can participate in private or group classes, where they can learn basic horsemanship, dressage, games on horseback and jumping.

🌟 Intro to Horses – Level 1
Perfect for beginners! Learn how horses think, communicate and connect with us. Practice basic horsemanship skills, build confidence around horses, and enjoy the magic of a ba****ck ride.

🌟 Follow On from Intro – Level 2
For riders who have attended Intro to Horses. Learn more about horse behaviour, grooming, balance, reins and steering, watch a tacking-up demonstration, and enjoy a riding lesson with saddle and bridle. Ready for a bouncy trot?

Not quite ready to stop after Levels 1 and 2? Spend more time with the horses, learn to tack up, improve your riding and steering, and begin learning the trot. Perfect for riders ready to grow their confidence and continue their horse journey.

Today we’re celebrating one of the absolute gems of the Ranchlands team — Theresa! 💛

Theresa has been part of the Ranchlands family for many years and we honestly don’t know what we’d do without her. A qualified Pony Club instructor with a lifetime of horse experience, she brings knowledge, dedication, fun, and just the right amount of “no-nonsense” to every lesson 😄

Her motto says it all:
✨ “Bottoms in saddles and smiles on faces.” ✨

Theresa loves helping riders grow in confidence, build stronger relationships with their horses, and achieve their own personal bests — because for her, riding isn’t about being the best, it’s about doing YOUR best. 🐎💫

She has a special way of bringing out the best in her students, creating trust, confidence, plenty of laughs, and lifelong horsey memories along the way.

Most people don’t realize this… but horseback riding after 50 isn’t something you “slow down” from—it’s something that actually keeps you going. 🐎

Every ride is doing more than you think.

It’s keeping your brain sharp—processing movement, balance, and coordination all at once.
It’s strengthening your core, hips, and posture in a way that actually supports real life.
It’s improving your balance and reaction time (which matters more now than ever).

And maybe most importantly… it’s regulating your nervous system.
Out there with your horse, things get quiet. Your mind settles. Your body resets.

While a lot of people start pulling back with age… riding keeps you connected to your strength, your confidence, and that part of you that refuses to become “average.”

Next Steps - Level 3 of the School Holiday Programs was held this morning 🐴 postponed from a rainy Wednesday (thanks parents for being flexible with your time ☺️)

Today was about understanding how to look after your horse - they are not a set and forget pet!!!! In riding - all about independence, no leaders today, steering, stopping was all up the rider - they did such a great job (you will have to believe me as zero videos / photos were taken 🙄😶 oppsss).

Thanks as always to our wonderful crew of volunteers - girls could not hold these sessions without you 💛 and of course to our 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 the best!!

Follow onto Intro - what a great job you all did!!!

The second session of our School Holiday Program for those budding equine enthusiasts who would like to give horse riding a go. We discussed how to communicate with our horse, introduced the saddle and bridle, steering and balance, extra grooming and tacking up…phew it was a busy morning 🦄

Of course our unicorns were super, many pats and cuddles 🐴 huge thanks to our Ranchlands students volunteers 💛 could not hold these days without you!!!

We are holding our first Next Steps - Level 3 on Wednesday 15th. Had couple of cancellations so have a few spare saddle spots if keen….. please message asap 😬

School holidays are calling… and so are the ponies! We’re so excited to be running our much-loved School Holiday Programs again — perfect for kids who want to have a go, learn about horses, or spend some special holiday time in the saddle.

🌟 Intro to Horses - Level 1

Learn how horses think, communicate, and connect with them on a whole new level. Make new friends (both horse and human!), learn basic horsemanship skills, and enjoy a magical ba****ck ride 🦄
Of course, there will be plenty of pats, cuddles, and pony love too!

🌟 Follow On from Intro - Level 2

Designed for riders who have attended Intro to Horses previously. Extend your understanding of horse behavior, practice balance on barrels, learn the feel of the reins, and see how to tack up. Enjoy grooming time and a mini riding lesson with saddle and bridle — steering your horse around the arena and maybe even trying a bouncy trot!
And yes… more pats and cuddles guaranteed 💛

✨ NEW THIS YEAR – Next Steps with Horses ✨Level 3
Loved Intro to Horses or Follow On from Intro and not quite ready to stop? Our NEW Level 3 – Next Steps with Horses is for riders ready to spend more time with the horses and build real confidence. Riders will groom, learn to tack up, enjoy more riding time, improve steering, and begin learning the trot — all in a fun, supportive environment.
