Do you have a hen whose feathers look a little rough? 🪶

Notice the rough ends, shortened feathers and beginning of thinner patches? That's a sign of too much rooster attention, which can eventually lead to feather loss and injury.

So what's the solution? More hens. Fewer roosters. Hen saddles. Or giving the girls a little break from the boys in a separate coop or run.

Fortunately, roosters tend to calm down a little in their attentions after the peak of spring! 🐣

A quick update for our local feed customers 🐔

Once our current stock runs out, we'll no longer be selling chicken feed. Feed isn't going to be a focus for us moving forward, so we've decided it's time to step away from that side of things.

A big thank you to everyone who's bought feed from us over the years — it's been lovely supplying so many backyard flocks around the area. We really appreciate the support.

There's still feed stock available in the meantime, so come grab some while it lasts. And the rest of our range — all Dine-A-Chook feeders, drinkers, and healthcare products — will continue to be available for collection as usual.

Our warehouse hours remain Mon–Thurs, 9am–3pm for now. Please note that as we transition away from feed, these hours may be adjusted down the track. We'll keep you posted if anything changes.

Australian Made and premium quality 12mm marine ply construction. Shipped fully assembled or as a flat pack. Price per 3 bay unit is $495. They are not on the website as the lead time is currently 7 days due to customer orders.

📦 We're Hiring – Part-Time Warehouse & Customer Service Assistant 🐔

We’re on the lookout for a reliable, practical local to join our small team here in Garbutt. This hands-on role includes assembling products, packing orders, and helping customers in-store.

It’s part-time (20 hours/week across Mon, Wed & Fri), with above-award pay and real long-term potential for the right person.

If you’ve got good common sense, show up on time, and don’t mind a bit of physical work, we’d love to hear from you. Bonus points if you know a thing or two about backyard chickens — but if not, we’ll teach you.

🛠 What’s Involved:

Assembling products using basic hand tools (screwdrivers, cordless drills, etc.)

Packing orders with a high level of attention to detail

Helping walk-in customers with product enquiries

Preparing items for shipping via Australia Post and couriers

General warehouse duties, including vacuuming and tidying

Weekly cleaning of the staffroom and bathroom

Keeping the workspace organised and safe

🧠 What We’re Looking For:

Someone reliable, hands-on, and takes pride in doing the job properly

Able to work independently and as part of a small team

Comfortable in a physical, active role (lifting up to 20kg)

A confident communicator with a friendly, helpful attitude

Some knowledge of backyard chickens is a bonus, but not essential — we’ll provide full training

Forklift licence preferred, but not required (training may be offered after probation)

Part-time: 20 hours per week

Shifts: Monday & Wednesday 7:30am–3:00pm, Friday 7:30am–12:30pm

Location: Garbutt, Townsville

Pay: Above award rates

Probation: 3 months with potential for training and role growth
