Toowoomba Birds

The big boss needs a hand from the community. ❤️

Rob, owner of Aquabird Pet Centre Toowoomba , has had his much-loved male African Grey fly from his home in Southbrook on Friday 25th September.

Anyone who knows Rob knows how much his birds mean to him, so we’d really love to get this boy safely back where he belongs.

If you’re around Southbrook or surrounding areas, please keep an eye and an ear out - African Greys can travel further than you’d expect, and sometimes hearing them is easier than spotting them.

If you see him, please don’t chase him. Take note of the exact location and direction he’s moving and call Aquabird on 4638 0220 as soon as possible.

And even if you’re nowhere near Southbrook, a share into your local community group could be the thing that puts this post in front of the right person.

Come on Toowoomba, let’s get Rob’s boy home. 🩶❤️

FOUND - EAST TOOWOOMBA

This little guy was found in East Toowoomba yesterday and handed in to Redvets. If you believe this may be your baby, please get in touch with me.

The bird is now in my care, receiving supplemental feeds of handraising mixture, electrolytes in its water and being kept warm and calm.

You will need proof of ownership before being able to collect the bird.

I wasn't sure whether to post about this, but after seeing today's news I feel like I need to say something.

Earlier this year I helped Kyle when his bird went missing. We had mutual friends and connections through a local business I trusted, so I trusted him too. I welcomed him into my home, around my kids, and even recommended his bird visits to other families.

When I later found out about his previous criminal history, I was horrified. I raised it with our mutual connections and learned they were already aware of his history and choosing to stand by him. I wasn't comfortable with that, I wasn't willing to stay quiet about my concerns, and I cut ties.

An anonymous post about his history was later made in a local Facebook group. I had nothing to do with it, but was accused of writing it and actually received legal correspondence over it. The real author has since been independently confirmed.

I haven't spoken publicly about any of this before today, but today's news obviously changes things.

Kyle is now facing a number of very serious charges involving children. These are allegations before the courts and I won't speculate about them.

What I will say is that kids' safety comes before friendships, business relationships or keeping the peace. Every. Single. Time.

Looking back, it makes me sick knowing I welcomed someone into my home and around my own children without information that would have completely changed that decision.

A Toowoomba avian educator has been charged with serious child s*x offences, including grooming and producing child exploitation material. STORY 👉 https://bit.ly/4ro9Jl3

A happy ending for little Ola 🩷

Yesterday, Mitch from Mr Shocko got in touch after his family’s much-loved cockatiel, Ola, managed to escape from her cage.

Thankfully, she was found today not far from home and reunited with her family.

After her little adventure, Ola was understandably pretty tired and had lost a few feathers from around her face, so we popped over to have a look at how she was doing.

She seemed bright and settled, had a little Spark electrolyte solution, and is now tucked away somewhere warm, dark and quiet to rest and recover from what was presumably a very dramatic 24 hours.

Then, completely unnecessarily but incredibly appreciated, Mitch and his family gave me these beautiful flowers as a thank you 🥹💐

Honestly, seeing a missing bird make it safely back home is more than enough - but this absolutely made my day.

Welcome home, Ola. Maybe we keep the adventures to a minimum from now on?

Another little reminder of why it’s always worth sharing missing bird posts, keeping an eye out, and not giving up hope.

🚨 MISSING COCKATIEL - NEWTOWN, TOOWOOMBA 🚨

This handraised, fully flighted cockatiel is missing from Newtown, Toowoomba as of Tuesday 15 September.

Please keep an eye out in trees, rooftops, fences, backyards and nearby streets, and listen for any unfamiliar cockatiel calls. Because she is handraised, she may approach people if she becomes tired or hungry.

If sighted, please do not chase her. Keep her in view if possible and contact Toowoomba Birds immediately on 0490 734 962.

Please share this post, especially with anyone in Newtown and surrounding Toowoomba suburbs. The more eyes looking, the better the chance of getting her home quickly.

TAME COCKATIEL SIGHTED AROUND GOWRIE MOUNTAIN

This cockatiel has been visiting someone's bird feeder and appears to be very tame. If you believe he could be yours, please get in touch so we can organise catching him.

Is this your bird?

This cockatiel is current being held by Animal Management in Toowoomba.

If you believe he may be yours, please contact them ASAP. The website does say that today is the cut off for collection of this bird so I did contact Animal Management myself, and I am unable to collect without proof of ownership.

If this baby isn't collected he MAY be euthenised, otherwise he will go to the RSPCA.

Both of these birds have now been reunited with their owners ❤️

Thank you to everyone who liked, commented, shared - especially to those who found these birds and got them to me safely.

⚠️ TOOWOOMBA LOST & FOUND PET COMMUNITY - PLEASE BE AWARE.

This account has repeatedly commented on found bird posts claiming the birds belong to them. I had previously assumed it was probably just a kid messing around, but after today’s interaction I’m much more concerned.

Please be extremely careful before handing any found animal over to someone claiming ownership. Ask for undisclosed identifying information such as leg ring details, distinctive markings, previous photos, vet records or other proof.

AI-generated images now make fake “proof” incredibly easy to create, so a photo alone is no longer enough.

If you run lost/found pages or regularly help reunite pets with owners, please keep an eye out for this account and verify claims properly before releasing an animal. Feel free to message me if you are ever unsure.

The goal is always to get found pets home - to the right home.

FOUND COCKATIEL - TOOWOOMBA

This little cockatiel was found in Grenier Street, Toowoomba on Friday 4 September.

She is tame, appears to be a mature bird, and is now safe and being cared for while we try to find her family.

She does have some feather loss around her head, which appears consistent with previous trauma or possible bullying from another bird, and she is currently being given supportive care.

She also has a leg ring, but details of the ring won’t be posted publicly so they can be used to help verify ownership.

If you think she may be yours, please send me a message with identifying details that aren’t obvious from the photo, including anything you know about her leg ring.
