Hermit crabs have entered the property market ๐
Unlike most animals, hermit crabs don't grow their own shells. Instead, they spend their lives searching for the perfect home and moving whenever they find a better fit.
But here's the really interesting part...
When a larger shell becomes available, some hermit crabs will gather together and form a line from largest to smallest. As soon as the biggest crab moves into the new shell, the next crab takes its old shell, then the next crab takes that one, and so on.
It's basically a giant shell-swapping property chain!
Hermit crabs can also remember the locations of good shells, inspect potential homes before moving in, and will sometimes compete with other crabs for the best real estate.
Nature is weird, wonderful, and apparently very invested in the housing market. ๐
