🐾 Let's talk about bloat — because every dog owner should know this.

GDV (Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus), is one of the most serious emergencies we see in veterinary medicine. The stomach fills with gas and twists on itself, cutting off blood supply to surrounding organs. It can go from "he seems a bit off" to life-threatening in a matter of hours.

It's fast. It's scary. And without emergency treatment, it's fatal.
Signs to watch for:

🚨 Swollen or tight-looking belly
🚨 Unproductive retching (trying to vomit but nothing comes up)
🚨 Restlessness or inability to get comfortable
🚨 Drooling excessively
🚨 Weakness or collapse

If you see these signs, don't wait. Call us immediately — time is everything.

Dave and Lemon 💛💛

When Lemon presented to us as a stray cat, she had all sorts of injuries including a proptosed eye which needed removal.

Dave took one look at her and knew he had to keep her. Honestly, who can blame him?

Is your pet a senior? Here's what to watch for 👀

Dogs and cats age faster than us, a 7 year old dog is roughly in their mid 40s in human years!

Signs to never ignore in older pets:
🩵Lumps or bumps that are new or growing
🩵Slowing down or reluctance to jump
🩵Changes in appetite
🩵Changes in mentation

We recommend a 6 - 12 monthly check ups for pets over 7. Catching things early = better outcomes and lower costs.

Alfie came to see us with a corneal ulcer, but despite treatment, the ulcer progressed into a descemetocele—a serious condition where the cornea becomes so thin that it's at risk of rupturing.

To save Alfie's eye, our amazing vets Dr Nicole and Dr Vini performed a corneal debridement to remove unhealthy tissue, followed by a conjunctival graft to provide blood supply and support healing.

Eye ulcers can deteriorate quickly and should never be ignored. Signs to watch for include:
🔹 Squinting
🔹 Excessive tearing
🔹 Redness
🔹 Cloudiness of the eye
🔹 Rubbing at the face

We're pleased to report that Alfie is recovering well and is well on his way to seeing the world clearly again. ❤️

Dental disease in our family pets is one of the most common issues we see in clinic 🙈

It can affect over 80% of dogs and cats by age 3—and it's not just about bad breath. Left untreated, it can lead to pain, tooth loss, and even heart or kidney problems 🫀

There are lots of ways to prevent this disease, including methods at home and in clinic. You can speak to our friendly team if you are worried about your pet, as well as coming in for a FREE dental check ❤
