These little beans have such an important job keeping your horses immune system 💪🏼 fighting harmful pathogens.

Unfortunately once they are damaged, they can't really repair themselves.

Thanks to my good friend Nikita Hillier from Crown Equine Solutions for helping me make a new website!

Something we don't talk about enough in the therapy industry is how important it is to have the right people supporting you.

As an industry that's about continual growth and development, having people that are with you for the ups and downs professionally and personally makes all the difference.

Nikita has been a big supporter of my business and I'm really privileged to be able to call her my friend.

Melt Lymphatics specialises in manual equine lymphatic drainage, kinesiotaping, cryotherapy, workshops, online courses and products to support horse health, recovery and performance.

Things I learnt about my new college Evelyn Brereton from Evelyn Brereton - Ev's Equine Services

🦴 24 hours of the day is the perfect time of day to talk about bones.

😴 Likes to listen when I am sleeping to see if I snore.

💆🏼‍♀️Is supportive of getting massages.

❤️ Has a big heart that cares deeply about helping horses and owners.

🫪 If you accidentally make her laugh too much she walks away into the next room.

🤓 Has a passion to help others learn.

To sum it all up - Ev goes alright and I'm so delighted I got to spend time with a legend for the week.

What makes manual equine lymphatic drainage so special?

The history of all massage techniques is really interesting, we don't always know the why of things help. Over time with the development of technology we now gain some insight into how bodies respond to different treatment techniques.

As much fun as tradition massage treatments are, when I first learnt about the lymphatic system, I didnt understand it.

Like most things I learn about, it takes a while to wrap my head around it and then a light bulb goes off in my head and I go "oh", usually its when I'm doing a mundane task.

For some reason I really like the idea of treatments that work with the body, rather trying to force pressure or make a body become overloaded with stimulus.

What if we didnt apply pressure, decompressed an area and helped support natural function? What if bodies can be retrained and supported long term?

I also like that it has a pattern, flow and rythm, and yes majority of techniques have the same basis, but lymphatic drainage is different. It gave the body a gentle wake up, that yes it can move lymph around.

For those new here, I am biased manual lymphatic drainage is my favourite.

Manual lymphatic drainage changes the texture below the skin, it does not have a massage hang over effect or down time and the decompression effects provide many benefits from moving the lymph, supporting fascia and muscle health and aids in recovery (there are more benefits, but I will use that as inspo for another post).

The changes I noticed in clients horses when I apply manual lymphatic drainage or mixed it with other techniques (yes! It can be mixed with different techniques) gave my treatments better results and also made me really happy.

While I have been quiet and away from the socials, in the real world I have been extremely busy.

I have been working multiple jobs for years and while they compliment each other, it has been a non stop balancing act. To be blunt I've loved it at times and other times become completely overwhelmed and felt behind in every aspect of my life.

The collaboration of these roles lead to an opportunity to .... Wait for it as it may surprise you ...but most likely won't .... Into a new role teaching remedial massage.

With this role opportunity its opening more opportunities for me to develop professionally and personally.

I actually didn't realise how passionate I am about ensuring people have the best start when entering the therapies industry regardless if they are treat 2 or 4 legged clients.

Its also brought more to the forefront how I encourage others to prioritise self care, while completely neglecting my own. With that double standard of myself, it's actually brought up a lot of shame. As leading by example was something I always valued with my mentors...also didn't realise that people had been using me as a mentor 😅 I just thought it was general conversation I was having with people.

Many clients may have noticed I have been referring new therapists to help keep costs affordable with treatments. From the other side of the messages, it's made me want to promote the message of education more.

While I had been looking forward to running workshops and meeting people interstate again, given the cost of things at the money, courses will become available online.

In the future I hope that more workshops will be back in person, for now I want people to have access to things that can help them and their horse.

While these changes are happening I appreciate everyone's patience and understanding.

Here is an awkward selfie of me, in my attempt at corporate casual. Something's changed but in many ways I'm still the same 😅

March is lymphoedema awareness month.

It's also the perfect weather to come to a workshop and learn manual equine lymphatic drainage. 😃

Manual lymphatic drainage is a technique that focuses on the lymphatic system and improves the movement of lymph in the body. This is vital for muscular health and supports immunity.

Horses that may have congestion or reduced lymphatic movement might be showing signs of:
-Swelling
- Lethargy
- General discomfort
- Stiffness
- Poor recovery from training

Horses that benefit from lymphatic drainage can include:
- diagnoses of lymphedema
- Horses on box rest
- Horses that travel a lot
- Sensitive horses
- Older horses

This workshop is for owners and therapists and over 2 days we will be looking at:

- How the lymphatic system functions
- what makes up the lymphatic system
- Applying manual lymphatic drainage

Date: 14-15th March
Venue: Quenda Glade Equine Gidgegannup
Start: 9am to 3pm
