🦷✨ Exciting news at our clinic! ✨🦷

We’re thrilled to announce that we have a brand-new dental machine at the clinic! 🎉🐾

Just like us, our dogs can suffer from plaque, tartar and dental disease — and unfortunately, they can’t tell us when their teeth are causing them pain. Regular dental care is an important part of keeping your furry friend happy, healthy and comfortable.

🦷 Why is a dental important for your dog?

🐶 Remove built-up plaque and tartar
🦷 Keep teeth and gums healthier
❤️ Reduce the risk of dental disease and infection
✨ Improve bad breath
🐾 Help identify painful or damaged teeth that may need attention
💗 Keep your pet more comfortable and improve their overall quality of life

Dental disease is very common in dogs, and prevention is always better than waiting until there’s a problem.

If it’s been a while since your dog’s last dental — or you’ve noticed bad breath, yellow/brown tartar, red or bleeding gums, difficulty eating or changes in their behaviour — now is a great time to book them in for a dental check!

📞 Give our team a call to book your pet’s dental appointment.

‼️🚨 HEARTWORM ALERT – MORE CONFIRMED CASES IN TAROOM 🚨‼️
We have now had confirmed cases of heartworm in Taroom, so we strongly encourage all dog owners to get their dogs tested. 🐶❤️
The good news is that testing is quick and easy — it only takes around 10 minutes at the clinic.
Depending on the result:✅ Negative: We can vaccinate your dog against heartworm⚠️ Positive: We can discuss the appropriate treatment options and, where suitable, start treatment on the same day.
Heartworm is a serious and potentially life-threatening disease, but it is preventable with the right protection.
📍 If your dog hasn’t been tested, please bring them into the clinic and get them checked. Don’t wait until it’s too late.
If you’re unsure whether your dog is protected or when they were last tested, give us a call or pop in and we can help. 🐾

HEARTWORM OUTBREAK!

Are your dogs protected against heartworm?

We have recently seen a spike in heartworm cases around Taroom, including both homebred and introduced dogs, with a concerning number of cases occurring in working farm dogs.

Heartworm is a serious and potentially fatal disease caused by worms that live in the heart. This often presents in middle aged dogs and is spread by mosquitoes meaning farm dogs are especially susceptible to heartworm as they are often around watering areas and yards.

Early heartworm disease can be difficult to notice. Signs can include:
🐾 Reduced exercise tolerance or stamina
🐾 Getting tired or overheated more easily than usual
🐾 Difficulty maintaining weight
🐾 Breathing difficulties
🐾 Coughing
By the time obvious clinical signs develop, the disease can already be quite advanced.

The good news? Heartworm is highly preventable.

If your dog's heartworm prevention has lapsed, you've recently acquired a dog, or you're not sure whether their current worming program covers heartworm, now is a good time to check.

Give Taroom Vets a call to discuss testing and prevention or book an appointment today.

It’s a bit late but we hope everyone gave all the horses a bit of extra love for their birthdays on August 1st 🐴

This means foals are about to hit the ground and we’re thinking about bringing a few more into the world this breeding season.

Taroom Vets is offering mare breeding services again in 2026. Whether you’re wanting to line a mare up to take to a stallion, artificial insemination with fresh chilled or frozen semen, or are wanting to confirm pregnancy after being with a stallion, get in touch and we can make it happen 🐎

Give us a call at the clinic for more details or to book your mare in.
