Oatie had nurses Nicia and Sandra on ear-cleaning duty after both ears started showing early signs of a yeast flare-up. 🐶👂He was a very good and brave boy.

Malassezia is a type of yeast that normally lives on dogs’ skin and in their ears, but an overgrowth can lead to irritation and ear infections. For Oatie, it seems to be something that likes to pop up seasonally, so catching the signs early helps us get on top of it before those ears get too uncomfortable!

📞🐾 Meet Our External Reception Team (Part 2)! 🐾📞

Here are a few more of the wonderful nurses who make up our offsite reception team and help keep things running smoothly behind the scenes. We’re very lucky to have them as part of our wider Taringa Vets team!

Have you spoken with one of these lovely nurses before? If they’ve helped you or you’ve had a particularly lovely experience, we’d love to hear about it in the comments so we can pass it on! ☺️

📞🐾 Meet Our External Reception Team (Part 1)! 🐾📞

Ever wondered who the friendly voices on the other end of our phones belong to?

After Vet Nurse Day, it felt right to introduce you to a part of the Taringa Vets team you may have spoken to many times but never met: our offsite reception nurses!

They're based all around Australia, but you'd never know it from the way they work alongside us. Staying connected and collaborating is really important to us, and we're so grateful to have a team who feels the same. Their wonderful support gives our in-clinic nurses more time for the patients and families right in front of them.

Is there anyone here who you've spoken to, who you can now put a face to? 🥰

Today we are celebrating our wonderful Vet Nurses at Taringa Vets! 🐾🐱🐶🩺

There’s a lot that goes into veterinary nursing which most people don't realise happens. From monitoring anaesthetics and caring for patients in hospital, to taking bloods, and assisting vets with procedures, these are only a few duties!

There are all the little things that are just as important. Sitting with a nervous patient, making sure they're warm and comfortable after surgery, noticing when something isn't quite right, or giving a little extra attention to a pet who's missing their family.

Somewhere amongst all of that, there's still the cleaning, laundry, restocking, admin and seemingly a hundred other jobs that keep the clinic running!

We're very lucky to have people who put so much thought and care into what they do, even on the busiest days. And that includes the wonderful students, locum and casual nurses who've been part of our team throughout the year. 💛

If one of our nurses has cared for your pet, we'd love for you to leave them a little message below. It would mean a lot to the team. 🥰

PS. We have a special post coming up, introducing some new faces to introduce with familar voices...📞

Volume up... can you hear that? That’s right, not much to hear!

When we’re checking a cat’s blood pressure, we like things nice and quiet. Noise, handling and stress can all affect the reading, so keeping the room calm helps us get a more useful result.

Cato is having his blood pressure checked, and the creamy treat is doing all the heavy lifting!

Introducing...the tick twister!

Because they have backward-facing barbs on their mouth parts, trying to remove a tick by pulling doesn't work - you will cause damage to your pet AND risk leaving mouthparts in.

This humble little tool is a game changer because it allows you to TWIST the tick out - less pain, less damage to your pet and the tick almost always comes out whole.

🌧️ With the rain settling in around Taringa today and a bit more weather on the radar, it’s a good time to think about our pets who aren’t quite so keen on storm season!

As storm season arrives, we'd like to share a few things that can help your pet when thunder is on the way:

- Bring them inside early and set them up somewhere they feel safe.
- Close windows and curtains to soften the noise and flashes.
- Make sure their ID tag and microchip details are current.
- If they have prescribed anti-anxiety medication, giving it before they become distressed will usually help it work more effectively.

If your pet is still struggling with storms, there are other things we can try together to help make things a little easier for them, just give us a call or send us an email. 🐶🐱☔️

Thank you for trusting us with your pets, and for taking the time to share such lovely words 💚
