Dung beetles
Hard workers
Dung beetles may be native Australian insects, mostly adapted to fibrous marsupial dung, or introduced species targeting farm animal faeces.
On farm, they work to break up dungpats and bury them underground, improving soil permeability and fertility.
In the lab, Em finds them a bit of a nuisance as she weighs out samples. They are also an indication that these samples were picked up off the ground and may not accurately reflect what is going on in this mob of sheep.
Fresh is best!
